Friends and neighbors,

This is a message that we wish we did not have to share with you...

We tragically lost 9 members of our Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) family to a horrific, senseless act of violence. This tragic event has shaken our community. VTA is family and they are a key part of our Santa Clara County community. Our hearts are with those directly impacted, and we stand in support with all of our VTA workers.

VTA staff are some of our most essential frontline workers. They literally kept us moving and connected during the pandemic, ensuring that public transportation was up and running.

We are a resilient and strong family because we help each when we need it most. Our VTA workers are heroes have always been there for us, and now we need to be there for them.

There are several ways you can help, first is with financial support:

Our friends at Working Partnerships USA have set up a support fund (LINK),
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265 has a disaster relief fund (LINK),

There is also a call for blood donations. Please consider donating blood through Stanford Blood Center (LINK) or with the American Red Cross (LINK), who is hosting the Family Assistant Center at 2731 N. First Street, San José. Everyone is encouraged to donate blood, especially people with type O blood.

Please take this opportunity to help each other now and donate to those who have lost a loved one in this horrific act of violence. We are strong. We are resilient. We are a family who will move beyond this tragedy together.

Please continue to stay safe, we are here to help any one in need. We also hope you are able to enjoy a peaceful weekend with your family and loves ones as we remember and honor the sacrifice of our fallen heroes on Memorial Day.

Warmest regards,
