Early June in Jackson, NJ

"But you, child of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness....." ~ 1 Timothy 6:11

So much of Scripture gives us advice for daily living. Finding the little nuances adds new perspective and provides guidance.

Paul writes to Timothy and compares Godliness with gentleness. In our society, gentleness is often perceived as weakness, and that's unfortunate.

Gentleness is a difficult mindset to achieve, yet opens our minds to so many of God’s blessings. I think of a surgeon, who with gentleness and precision, is able to remove something harmful or repair something broken. This is my overall perception of God’s loving rebuke or guidance for us.

If we live gently into the world, God provides us new opportunities and scenarios to enhance all of His creation. Gentleness soothes our souls. I also believe it takes great strength to focus on Christ’s will and choose gentleness.

This is so much the way of Jesus. To fight battles through ways that might appear to be weakness, but are actually the sign of great strength. How great is our savior!

I will be taking a “working vacation” the week of June 14th-21st. I’m blessed to have Guy Raymond preaching on June 20th. I’ll be using the week to plan out sermon series for the remainder of the summer and the fall, as well as planning my fall schedule. I am available to anyone during the week as needed.

Just a reminder that on Sunday, June 20, Father’s Day, we will begin worshiping at our new time, 9 AM.

May God bless each of you, and may the gentleness of Christ rule in our hearts!

~ Pastor Denise

Updated COVID-19 Guidelines
Effective June 6 – DeBows UMC has updated its COVID-19 guidelines for indoor worship services, per recently released CDC & NJ State recommendations. These recommendations reflect the progress made in reducing the number of COVID-19 cases, due in large part to the effectiveness of the vaccine rollout.

UPDATE – Wearing a mask and social distancing is now optional for fully vaccinated people. Unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Also, people are no longer required to pre-register to attend an indoor worship service. With some exceptions, the State of NJ is not requiring proof of vaccination status and is depending on the honor system for guideline compliance. DeBows UMC will also use the honor system.

DeBows will maintain its advanced level of cleaning and sanitizing of the building and continue to offer hand sanitizer and disposable masks upon entry.

After 15 months we are now seeing progress being made. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we celebrate this milestone and look forward to the time when we can lift any remaining restrictions.

Online Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving at either the outdoor or indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. The Online Giving option is also available while you are watching the weekly online worship service. --- Thank You

Food Pantry Ministry
2nd & 4th Monday Each Month
The next Food Pantry distribution is
Monday, June 14
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month. DeBows is using an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call the church by 5:00 PM on the Saturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

Please contact Deb Cregle if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.
Church Flea Market
Saturday, June 26

DeBows will host a Flea Market on Saturday, June 26 from 8 AM to 2 PM. Table space (no table) for vendors is $10. Please contact Sue Hayward at jerseysue@outlook.com to reserve a space or for more information.

We are asking the congregation to donate some of the food items that we will be selling. We will not be cooking any food, but would like to sell drinks and prepackaged items. Here is a list of what we are needing:

Case of water
12 packs of soda – Coke or Pepsi, diet Coke or diet Pepsi, Sprite or Sierra Mist
Bottled iced tea or lemonade
Lunch size packages of chips
Little Debbie or Tastykake packages
Ice Cream sandwiches or popsicles

If you are able to donate any of the above items, please send Sue Hayward an email and let her know.

If anyone has donations for the church to sell, please bring them to the church on Sunday, 6/20 from 8:30 AM – 10 AM and put them on the stage. If you can’t make 6/20, please let Sue know to arrange a time to meet.

We will be meeting at the church on Friday evening (6/25) starting at 6 PM to organize any donations that have been dropped off at the church. Please stop by for a few minutes, if you can, to help. We will be setting up the pop-up canopies and tables on Saturday morning at 7 AM. We need help for setup at 7 AM as well as breakdown around 1-2 PM. We also need help manning the church’s tables.  Any help would be appreciated.

UMCOR Hygiene Kits

DeBows will be supporting UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) through September by supporting their Hygiene Kit program.

This is hurricane season and the projected heat wave/drought conditions in the west this summer make wild fires a very real possibility.

Along with accepting monetary donations, DeBows will be collecting items to build Hygiene Kits. Our UMCOR Hygiene Kit outreach activity helps to meet the ever increasing demand for relief items. The Hygiene Kits we put together are forwarded to UMCOR for deployment to those most in need. This has been very successful and rewarding ministry in past years.

If you wish to donate, please mark clearly on your check or envelope that it is for UMCOR.  Each Hygiene Kit is valued at $12, but any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and will be sent to UMCOR along with the hygiene kits.

Click HERE to view a detailed list of items needed along with other important guidelines. "Thank You" for your support.
