Axe Throwing Sisterhood!!!
Classic Axe in Tempe, AZ was the place for Delta Zetas to be on June 23rd!  Dusty Tingstrom and Julie Butterworth made up the Green Team against Lorna Green and Lee Ann Witt of the Pink Team. The Green Team won 2 of the 3 games in a contest of beauty and brawn! After a few practice rounds, it became evident Dangerous Dusty meant business while Julie Butterworth found her stride in throwing near bull-eyes most of the night. In a final round sudden death, Julie was crowned “Lumberlord” and placed her competitive name-tag on the “wall of winners!”  We brought a little wine, a few snacks and had a great time. The challenge is on.... the four of us will take on the next team of four in the fall!
Pictured: Dusty Tingstrom and Julie Butterworth proof of their expertise as axe throwers!
Delta Zeta National Convention Speaker
It's Virtual So We Can All Participate
Join the Key note speaker, Melanie Griffin, Delta Zeta Sorority National Convention on Thursday, July 15, 2021 during Truly Connected; Flexing Your Resilience Muscle: Building Skills to Thrive, Succeed & Shine:
Plot twist! At multiple points in our personal lives and professional careers, things do not go as planned. Aging parents. The end of relationships. Passed over promotions. Illness and disability. “Failed” entrepreneurial ventures. Grad school rejection letters. Heck, even saying the wrong thing or tripping over our own feet at *the worst* possible moment. We’ve all been there, right?! In fact, more times than we can count or wish to remember, especially as we recover from a tough 2020, including a worldwide pandemic. So, why is it that so few challenges are talked about? That TV shows, podcasts and the like mainly interview gold medalists over people who overcome the toughest challenges of their lives? That when we experience disappointing outcomes, we feel alone, ashamed, and unprepared? That is all about to change, sister.

Attend this high-energy, interactive, not-to-miss session during which you will laugh, cry, and build your resilience muscle like never before. No longer will you dwell on the past. Instead, you will develop skills and explore strategies that help you analyze and learn from experiences, pivot when necessary, and thrive and succeed moving forward. Importantly, by being our real and authentic selves, we will further build our Delta Zeta sisterhood, allowing you to shine your brightest with your #1 Fan Club cheering you on each step of the way.

Melanie S. Griffin, Esq. is a triple-graduate of The Florida State University (Business Finance, 2003; MBA, 2006; JD, 2006). As a collegiate member of Delta Zeta’s Alpha Sigma Chapter, Melanie served as Chapter President; represented the Chapter at Delta Zeta’s Centennial Convention and on the FSU Homecoming Court, winning Homecoming Princess Runner-Up; helped to found the Pi Alpha Chapter at the University of Florida; and received multiple Delta Zeta and Panhellenic awards and scholarships, including the Florence Hood Miner and Grace Mason Lundy Awards.

What is the Delta Zeta Virtual Book Club Reading?
Our July selection to read is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Movie of  Where the Crawdads Sing will be coming out soon and hopefully a few of us in the book club can go see it in person.

Our June book was Olive Kitteridge. Even if you have not read the book you are invited to join us for the discussion on July 6. Our monthly book is chosen based on conversation starting story lines. The DZ book club virtual zoom event to discuss Olive Kitteridge will be July 6 at 7pm. We always meet the first Tuesday of the month. Congratulations to Elizabeth Cavalieri one of our DZ's from ASU
At ASU, Elizabeth Cavalieri was President of our Pi Zeta Chapter. Today she works at the White House as Associate National Press Advance Lead. In January, she was working the Presidential Inauguration and can be seen wearing the black cap with the White House in the background. She felt humbled and overwhelmed to be working such an important event. She is sure to be working many more inaugurations. Also pictured is Elizabeth on the tarmac working the departure of the Vice President as she was part of the team that executed the first international trip of the Biden-Harris administration in Mexico. We can't wait to hear more of your adventures working at the White House. As Elizabeth proves, Delta Zetas are always ready to serve as we live and honor our creed as "we walk in the light of the flame."

"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."
Edith Wharton

In other words, carrying on the “light” of another — be it ideas, joy, love, or inspiration — can be just as valuable as creating it yourself. Delta Zetas are often either the candle or the mirror.
