Protect the Vote in Massachusetts

Wednesday, June 16 at 6:30-7:30 pmJoin us on Zoom [Note that this meeting is on a different day of the week than we usually meet due to speakers’ schedules.]

We are excited to partner with Greater Andover Indivisible to host a joint meeting in June. There is so much current press, discussion and activism around the country concerning voting rights, but what’s happening right here in MA? Beth Huang of MA Voter Table and Geoff Foster of Common Cause Massachusetts will speak to us about the redistricting process in our state, the pending state VOTES Act and other efforts to help ensure fairness in our election process.

If you missed our Monthly Meeting on Countering Disinformation

Thursday, June 3 at 7:30 - 8:30 - Register here

Join Indivisible Andover for a meeting similar to our April gathering and entitled, “The Evils of Disinformation and What You Can Do About it. Practical and effective steps that you can take from home!”  The lineup of speakers, including I-RISE representatives, will explain what is happening with the mis- and dis-information that is constantly seeping into our news stream and will offer actions we can all take to stem the tide of disinformation and, hopefully, hold the line in 2022.

Grassroots Reboot: Building Massachusetts Infrastructure Now to Win in 2022 and 2024

Another Outdoor Gathering!

Friday, June 12 at 5:30-6:30 pm

It was great to gather in person last month, and we look forward to even more people joining us at the next Persistence Happy Hour. We’ll meet again on the green behind the Sea Level Restaurant. Bring a chair, a drink, thoughts of the day, a pet, and anything else to add to the festivities. If it is raining, stormy or there are high winds an hour before we’re scheduled to meet, we’ll get together on Zoom here.

A Successful FUNdraising Evening!

Our virtual fundraiser on Saturday, May 22 was fun and educational. Thanks go out both to everyone who attended and to those who made a donation even though they could not attend the event (and who were missed)! We raised enough to donate $700 to the New Georgia Project as well as support our plans to start meeting in person again in the fall for both our monthly meetings and a resumption of in person Action Hours. Much more will follow about those plans. In the meantime, though, we are thrilled to know that we are fully funded for in person meetings at least through this calendar year!

Current and Recurring Activities

Counter Disinformation

There continue to be numerous and varied actions to take to help counter disinformation, and these efforts are critical to helping to save our democracy. Click here for a full list of suggested actions to help counter disinformation, and check the far right column to find something that meets your desired time commitment.

For the People Act Phonebanks

The offer still stands: If you are not sure if phone banking is for you, please join one of our phone banks with Common Cause just to listen, learn, and ask questions. When you see how easy and useful these calls are, we hope you will decide to give it a try! Calling is to voters in targeted districts to connect them to their Senators to tell them to end the filibuster so that we can pass the For the People Act (S1) to protect the most vulnerable from voter suppression. This is a critical time, and we need to reach as many voters as possible. Legislators believe that every phone call from a constituent represents the opinions of between 3 - 5 thousand voters!!  Registration (here) is preferred, but feel free to drop in to the Zoom if you just want to observe to start. And, of course, please register if you are ready to train and start calling!

 Texting Opportunities

As always, check our Texting Opportunities document for a list of current texting options. A couple of highlights for the coming weeks:

  • Movement Labs has ongoing texting campaigns to combat voter suppression efforts around the country. Last week, volunteers texted over 1 million voters encouraging them to contact their state representatives or Governors to voice their opposition to pending voter suppression bills. They are continuing these campaigns this week. Click here to text with Movement Labs.

  • Fair Fight is gearing up for texting by offering multiple training sessions over the next few weeks. Sign up for training here and then you’ll be ready to text with Fair Fight when they start their texting shifts.

Indivisible Truth Brigade

Indivisible’s Truth Brigade postings have received over 80 million views as of last week, and it won’t be long before they hit 100 million and beyond!

A good way to learn the best way to get out the current Truth Sandwich message is to attend a virtual Weekly Tweet Brigade hosted by Indivisible Acton on Thursdays at 12-1 pm. These weekly gatherings include a breakout room with guidance on how to use Twitter if you are new to that platform.

If you cannot make it on Thursdays but want to learn more, Indivisible’s Truth Brigade team holds sessions two Wednesdays a month to explain the current campaign and answer questions. You can sign up here (2nd Wed) or here (4th Wed) to join a session.

 Activist Organizing Hub

On Saturdays at 3-5 pm, Mass Dems holds a virtual gathering of activists to connect with one another and participate in activities that support Democratic candidates and causes. Bring your own project or join one available through MA Dems. Training is available as needed. Sign up here.
