June Nursery Hours Mon-Sat 10-4

We are so lucky here in southeastern New England...we had a good 3" plus of rain this weekend to help with the deficit we've had since last year, and the garden is so thankful! Our nursery will continue to be open Mon-Sat 10-4.  Mail order shipping (on Mondays and Tuesdays) will continue as weather permits.

Our Latest Plant Additions

We've added some great new selections to our online mail order catalog. Pictured above is the fabulous Japanese Climbing Hydrangea Vine, Schizophragma hydrangeoides 'Moonlight'.

Nursery visitors will find a bigger variety of plants to choose from, including organically grown zinnias plus other annuals for cutting, heirloom vegetables and herbs, oh, and some some amazing Japanese Maples!

Time to Plant Summer Containers

Just because we had a wonderful rainfall this past weekend doesn't mean we can expect repeat performances all summer. Last year's drought reminded us why succulents were the highlight of our summer containers.

At the end of August last year, New York Times garden writer Margaret Roach penned an article "What to Plant in a Hot, Dry Year? Succulents, of Course", after a conversation with Katherine Tracey on what was holding up in their parched gardens.  Check out the article for ideas and inspiration, and/or visit us at the nursery... we have already begun our 2021 ensembles and have an excellent selection of succulents, both hardy and tender, as well as gorgeous pottery.

Upcoming Succulent Container Workshop

Need more guidance and inspiration? We have a few open spots in June 10th's limited capacity workshop here at Avant Gardens.

Bring your own container, up to 12″ in diameter (bigger pots may be too heavy to transport home) or purchase one from our collection. We’ll provide the proper planting medium and extend a 20% discount on the plants and as well as containers..  A suitable container should have drainage holes, and be of a neutral color that works with the succulent color palette. Class size is limited and will be held outdoors under a tent, socially distanced.

Fine Gardening and Landscape Construction Work

Our landscape projects throughout southeastern New England involve both innovative plantings and hardscape, featuring dry laid stone walls, bluestone, goshen stone and brick paving. We are looking to add 1-2 full time and 1 part-time crew member to our landscape installation team.  Candidates must enjoy outdoor physical work, (stones are heavy!), be conscientious, eager to learn and  able to work well with others. Landscaping experience is helpful, but we will train the right individuals who are hardworking and are interested in learning the craftsmanship of fine gardening and stonework. Hourly wage commensurate with experience.
