Superintendent's Memo

Hello Team and Welcome to June!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the graduating classes of 2021. BTPS saw some graduations last week in Dewberry and Marwayne. Graduations look different but celebrating the hard work of our students is so important. Thank you to all for supporting and guiding our students to this milestone in their lives.

We did not get through the first week back from at-home learning COVID free. We have COVID cases in Irma and Amisk/Hughenden. A huge thank you for continuing to follow guidelines and restrictions as we finish off this school year.

I am looking forward to seeing the students’ logo designs for the BTPS Orange Shirt Day Contest. The deadline for the contest is June 9! Thank you to the Park Plains East ATA Diversity, Equity and Human Rights Committee and Katrin Heim for planning this division-wide contest which promotes reconciliation, anti-racism and anti-bullying.

Enjoy the week everyone!

Take care,
Rhae-Ann

Auto-injectors Training:

https://www.allergyaware.ca/ has a free online course that can teach how to recognize anaphylaxis reactions and how to use the auto-injectors. The course takes about ½ hour to complete. This can be completed individually, or during a staff meeting. Every employee would have to sign in to the course to receive a certificate of completion. The electronic version of the certificate would then be emailed to their Supervisor and the OHS Coordinator for filing.

kiskêyihtamowin: Learning through Experiences – Indigenous Online Video Learning Series

Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon is thrilled to announce the release of our NEW online video learning series kiskêyihtamowin – learning through experiencesThis exciting new educational tool has been in development over the last few months in partnership with Elders, curriculum development staff, and Dr. Ernie Walker of the University of Saskatchewan.

kiskêyihtamowin – learning through experiences is an essential learning resource based on Wanuskewin’s cultural and land-based experiential programs, that have now been brought into a digital space. All of our programs have developed curriculum connections, based on the Saskatchewan Curriculum Standards, and will assist learners to reach core competencies in science, art, language, history, and treaty education based on Indigenous Ways of Knowing designed for all grade levels.

We have attached an information package and price sheet with this email for more information regarding the programs and cost. The online learning series is sold as an annual subscription for the entire school division. Any purchase made before June 30, 2021 will be extended automatically to June 30, 2022, ensuring educators and school divisions are able to get the most use out of their investment for the remaining 2021 school year, and the entire 2022 school year.

Jodee Blanco - The Voice of America's Bullied
www.jodeeblanco.com

I speak in schools and offer an anti-bullying program called INJJA (It's NOT Just Joking Around!) that includes student presentations, Professional Development and a parent/family component.

It’s NOT Just Joking Around!™ – Understanding School Bullying Through the Eyes of a Former Victim

I bring the audience inside the heart and mind of the bullied child, and let them see the world through their compelling point of view. I share some of my most unforgettable experiences working deep inside the trenches of America’s schools. This keynote is intense, inspirational and cuts to the core of what it means to be a bullied child through the perspective of only someone like me, who was bullied herself and who holds hundreds of bullied students in her arms every day as they pour their hearts out to her, can understand.

What my program includes:
  • Age Appropriate Student Presentations (elementary, middle and high)
  • After-School Faculty In-service with Supplemental White Paper
  • Evening Parent-Family Seminar
  • Flexible, Optional SEL Based Follow-Up Curriculum/Blended Learning Model (commences after I've come to speak and keeps the message of tolerance and compassion alive the rest of the school year)
Available Modalities:
  • In-Person (during social distancing, I present multiple times to smaller groups of students)
  • Virtual (I present live and schools may record the presentations for future learning)
  • Blended Learning Model (integrates in-person components and E-learning, designed around a school’s needs)
  • Hybrid (a combination of in-person and virtual, for example, live-streaming an in-person presentation in a socially distanced classroom to remote students).
