Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) for home-based businesses (coming soon)

Haringey will shortly open its ARG scheme for home-based businesses.

Who can apply?

The scheme will be open to a range of businesses including driving instructors, taxi-drivers, mobile hairdressers, and other businesses based in residential property across the borough. The scheme is open to sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scheme a business must:

  • be based at a residential address in Haringey
  • be trading between April 2020 and March 2021
  • have lost income during this period

The amount of money you will be able to receive will depend on your fixed business costs. This is to make the scheme fair and consistent with the business property based ARG scheme. The government has stated that ARG cannot be used to support wages.

Eligible fixed business costs include:

  • insurance
  • licencing
  • membership of professional/trade associations
  • equipment lease/hire/finance costs
  • bank charges
  • business software and virus protection
  • business internet and telephony
  • business storage costs
  • other fixed costs deemed by the council to be reasonable

Grant payments

You will receive a one-off payment initially. The amount you receive depends on your fixed costs as determined by the council. The council may make further payments in future at its discretion and subject to funding availability.

These are the amounts we will pay for the period April 2020 to March 2021:

  • Fixed costs under £1,000: nil grant
  • Fixed costs between £1,000-1,999: grant of £1,000
  • Fixed costs between £2,000-2,999: grant of £2,000
  • Fixed costs between £3,000-3,999: grant of £3,000
  • Fixed costs between £4,000-4,999: grant of £4,000
  • Fixed costs over £5,000: grant of £5,000

You must apply online and supply all your business bank statements for the period April 20 to March 21.

How do I apply?

Applications will be through an online form and the scheme will be open to applicants from early June 2021 until 30 June 2021.

Full information on how to apply for this and all other available business grants, including the Additional Restrictions Grant and Restart scheme can be found on our dedicated business grants page.

COVID 19 - an urgent reminder to close contact service businesses

Haringey Council has recently been made aware of an outbreak of a COVID-19 variant of concern at a hairdresser in another London borough, which highlights the importance of compliance with COVID-secure measures to control the spread.

It is a legal requirement that all staff working in close proximity to clients wear a face covering.

The current guidance for close contact services (PDF, 627KB) recommends that the face covering should be a type 2 mask and a shield or goggles should also be worn. Individuals entering your premises must also wear face coverings and you should provide sufficient signage indicating that people should only enter your premises when wearing a face covering.

Please note that there are exceptions to the requirement to wear face coverings; such as not being able to put on, wear or remove a face covering because of any physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability, i.e. someone accompanying, or providing assistance to, another person who relies on lip-reading to communicate.

Council enforcement officers will be visiting all close contact premises over the next few weeks and will take enforcement action where face coverings are not being worn. This could result in a fixed penalty notice and a fine of £100.

For clarity, please read the council's recently published guidance for close contact services (PDF, 627KB).

Cllr Peray Ahmet appointed new Leader

Last Thursday, Cllr Peray Ahmet (pictured) was officially appointed as the new Leader of Haringey Council at the Annual General Meeting - and pledged to give local people a major voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

Cllr Ahmet takes over from Cllr Joseph Ejiofor who was in the role for 3 years.

Brought up in Wood Green, Cllr Ahmet attended Woodside High School and understands the values of the diverse community across Haringey.

Cllr Ahmet said: "I am thrilled and honoured to have been elected the new Leader of Haringey Council. I am one of the first Haringey Leaders to have been born and raised in the borough and it’s shaped how I see things and how I want to see things done. I want to see Haringey become a truly, genuinely collaborative council. It's how we'll achieve the kind of change we were elected for."
