Welcome to the latest Newsletter from Culbokie Community Trust. There are a number of articles below relating to our activities which I hope you will find interesting and informative. You will see that we have been busy with a number of different projects and you will find more information on our website.
Those of you who live in and around the village will have seen that Tulloch are busy on the Glascairn site and have been making good progress with their development. This bodes well for the formation of the village green as you will see below. You will also find details of the consultation on the Culbokie Active Travel Route (CATR). CCT representatives will be at the Community Market tomorrow if you have any questions and don't forget to submit your comments by this Sunday 24th May.
As lockdown continues to ease, I hope the weather improves and you can enjoy exploring both locally and further afield. And don't forget to snap those photos for the competition!
Best Wishes

Hopefully you’ll already be aware of our plans to make the village safer and more pleasant for people walking, cycling, using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, and pushing buggies. Our latest consultation on the plans closes on Sunday 24th May, so if you haven’t already, do please have a look at the on-line presentation (and fill in the questionnaire), or if you’d rather have a chat about it, come along to the market tomorrow, 10.00 to 11.00 in the Findon Hall car park.
And we’ve had some fantastic ideas and drawings from the primary schoolchildren – 87 in total, including some which are a bit beyond our remit – hot tubs and sweetie shops, for instance – but also lots of play suggestions and places for nature.
Culbokie Sharing Shed Open Every Day 0900-1800 (2000 on Wed) throughout the summer Many thanks for your continued support and many donations.
Please keep them coming as it’s being well used.
Sadly, we have recently had two incidents of vandalism at the shed, where items have been damaged, moved and general mess was left for our team of volunteers to clear up. These were reported to the police. Please keep an eye out if you are around the area and report any unusual activity – the contact information is on the shed. Many thanks.
Is a £50 Munro’s Garden Voucher an attractive prospect as spring slips into summer? It is the generous prize for the winner of the virtual Treasure Hunt challenge currently being run by the CCT Fundraising Group. You are asked to simply guess the location of the hidden prize on a landscaping plan for the proposed Village Green at Glascairn. To reserve your chosen feature at a cost of just £3, visit us at our stall at the Saturday Outdoor Market on May 29th, or check out the map and available features online by following this link: Culbokie Community Trust | Treasure Hunt (culbokiect.org)
Once all the features have been sold, a draw will be set up at one of the weekly outdoor markets in June on a date that we will publicise. The person whose feature is pulled out of the hat at the draw, will be the winner of the £50 garden voucher.
As you will all have noticed, the Tulloch development at Glascairn is proceeding apace. The first home occupancies are expected in July and Tulloch has reported strong interest in the new houses.
As we reported last month, our full planning application for the Hub and village green was submitted to Highland Council in late April. We are still awaiting registration of the application but will publicise this as soon as we have it so that you can view and comment on line.
We are delighted to announce that we were one of only two projects on the Black Isle that won support from the Highland Coastal Communities Fund for our village green project. This will support the establishment of the community orchard, native tree planting, hedges and willow structures. We’re planning to involve a wide range of volunteers to help with the planting over the winter months and we’ll be able to offer some training and supervision as required. We’d be delighted to hear from groups or individuals who would like to be involved.
We are currently undertaking detailed design of the natural play area on the village green which is intended for smaller children under supervision. Many thanks to those local parents of young children who have agreed to be part of the working group to assist with this.
Black Isle Photographic Competition 2021
The third annual Black Isle Photo Competition is well underway, and, despite unsettled weather here on the Black Isle, the light is still special enough for taking a selection of images to highlight this year’s theme, ‘Food and Drink of the Black Isle’. Just three digital images are required in adult, teenage or child categories for the chance to win cash prizes generously donated by sponsors, Tulloch Homes.
With the closing date of July 31st, there is time to put your own interpretation to the theme. You might want to capture the colour of local produce at a Black Isle open air market stall, farm shop or garden, or the bustle around our harbours and in our cafes and restaurants, or the rich pickings in our hedgerows and fields. Here are two images from our archives that fit the theme: one close-up and one telephoto image.
Details of the competition plus further ideas on interpreting the theme will be posted on the CCT website in the coming weeks. In the meantime, follow this link for further information on how to enter: www.culbokiect.org
Scroll down on the home page to the poster image for the competition. Good luck!

History Group
The Findon Hall page has been updated to reflect the part played by the Good Templars in Culbokie in setting up the original hall.
A photograph of the Culbokie School percussion band of 1964 has been posted and more names are required. Also we have unearthed some photos from the Ferintosh Environment Group days, 2004, of Culbokie school pupils receiving a delivery of bird food for their feeders. A rare view of the Portacabin classrooms. Again we would welcome some names.
