Public Invited: Tuesday Meeting of Ad Hoc Subcommittee on NPPC Bylaws
A new Ad Hoc Subcommittee on NPPC Bylaws will meet for the first time on Tuesday, May 25, at 6:00 p.m. The subcommittee was launched in the wake of challenges to the 2020-2021 NPPC Elections in March. The meeting will begin with an overview of existing bylaws and proceed to a community forum on potential bylaw amendments and NPPC reform. The registration link is:
Kudos to Randy Walsh for his thoughtful non-agenda public comment about NPPC diversity and inclusion: “I want to encourage the committee to create some sort of mechanism through which you can self-monitor and even pro-actively manage diversity and inclusion, both on the committee and in terms of who’s being involved. It would be interesting to see some sort of matrix of what the committee feels are key data points when it comes to diversity and inclusion, seeing where we are right now and where we have holes to fill.”

30th Street Bike Lanes to “Diverge” Around Parklets
Asked how the proposed 30th Street bike lanes will share road space with existing 30th Street outdoor eateries, mayoral aide Kohta Zaiser said, “They’ll put up bollards in areas where outdoor dining will jut into the bike lanes ...and then they’ll put up signs diverting cyclists away from the dining structures.” And then maybe they’ll put up signs diverting passing cars around the cyclists diverting around the parklets.
Neighborhood-Based Approach to Homelessness
Brian Gruters of People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) explained how PATH’s Mid-City Outreach Program is working on homelessness with a geographic approach “that allows one [outreach worker] to get to know a neighborhood really well, all the unsheltered people in it, the businesses, the police, and the residents.” PATH has been developing “a system that can process folks into a shelter and into a permanent home of some sort within about a month of their becoming homeless.” Future plans include “a 211 referral process,” a hotline for calls about unsheltered people who need outreach. April Meeting: Oh, Never Mind
NPPC’s representative to the monthly CPC meeting is responsible for reporting back to the community on specific discussions that took place of citywide planning issues. Here is the full report delivered at the May 18 NPPC meeting:
“I attended for the first time. They talked a little bit about the short-term rental issue. I have to be honest. It was a rough meeting to try to attend. It was not very well-managed. I’m going to try to work with their Chair to make sure that future meetings are a little more coherent and well-managed.”
