It’s been full steam ahead since our energising hui last month! We are pleased to welcome new members to the forum and start developing and prioritising workstreams that were discussed at the hui.

One of our key workstreams is Catchment Communities and we are working with Alastair Cole from MPI to secure significant funding that will allow us to step up our work supporting existing and new catchment community groups. Watch this space!

Other workstreams include Communications, Education, Large Landscapes, Data Gathering and Mapping and Predator Control. We will share plans for these workstreams soon. If you would like to be involved, please let us know.

Planting season is upon us and it’s great to see opportunities promoted for the community to get involved. We are looking forward to getting out and helping groups with their planting and sharing their mahi with the wider Wairarapa community. Please let us know if you have any volunteer opportunities you would like us to share through our network.

There have been a lot of important discussions around water resilience recently and it has been good to hear a wide-range of kaupapa in this space. This is a complex topic with strongly held differing views in the community. Our hope is that by sharing knowledge and working together we can find some common ground and collaborative opportunities for biodiversity enhancement.

Nursery Collective

Members of WaiP2K have indicated that they would like to learn more about growing healthy native plants. An opportunity arose when Charmin Dahl, a student from the US, contacted us to collaborate on a project.

Charmin will be working with WaiP2K to initially develop a series of workshops on growing native nurseries. In time we hope to develop a native nursery collective for sharing and learning. Keep an eye out for more details coming soon!

Why use TrapNZ?

TrapNZ is a free website and phone app that helps volunteers to record and understand predator control and biodiversity data.

Celia Wade-Brown uses TrapNZ to record trapping data from their farm. Celia wants to see more trapping data collected and shared across the Wairarapa so we can work together to achieve Predator-Free Wairarapa.
