Answered Prayers...Again!
I could have sent you the photo of Madame Rebeccah lying in her hospital bed on oxygen. But, why visit the sick when we can testify of our Great Physician?
Rebeccah oversees our curriculum development and staff training for all of our schools and feeding stations in Kenya. A few years ago Rebeccah underwent serious heart surgery (there really is no other kind of heart surgery) and God used the doctors and medicine to heal her. She continues to battle heart disease, blood pressure issues and the unavoidable other issues that come with aging. It was obvious to me that she was not well on my recent visit. Rebeccah was recently hospitalized (again). You prayed, and God said yes. Rebeccah is back home with another extension on life. Every day God gives us with co-laborers like Rebeccah is a gift to us and to those we minister to. Thanks for your prayers for Rebeccah. She, like all of us at Light Ministries, want to squeeze every day of service to God that we can out of these aging bodies.
Speaking of aging, I celebrated my 67th trip around the sun last month. Teresa and I also celebrated our 47th year of marriage in May. Many sent me birthday greetings and wished me well. Many more asked "the question"...when are you going to retire. To which I gave my standard answer: "When my body no longer allows me to make the trips to Africa or to my American preaching assignments, I will continue to be an advocate for what God is doing in East Africa, raise as much support as I possibly can, write those things that God places on my heart for others, and pray. As long as I can draw a breath and assemble intelligible sentences, I have no desire or plans to step away from this great safari of the soul that God has invited me to join Him in."
Nothing (apart from the return of Christ) would please me more than to drop dead "neck deep" in the midst of ministry.
My doctors continue to brag on their excellent work that keeps me going after over 40 years of ministry. I continue to brag on a God who gave me life, sustains my life daily, and will close this earthly life on the day that He has predetermined will serve and suit Him best.
