WEBINAR INVITE
Collaboration with the FAO on AGROVOC: The CGIAR exemplar
Date and time: Wednesay 16th June 2021 at 2:00 pm CEST (UTC + 02:00)

Dear colleagues,

We invite you to an IDM CoP webinar presenting the collaboration between AGROVOC and the CGIAR. The AGROVOC team will discuss the AGROVOC controlled vocabulary, its evolution and new developments. The team will also present AGRIS, and how CGIAR participates in this effort. CGIAR has been using and contributing to AGROVOC in different ways for some years. This webinar will highlight current and future collaboration.

More about AGROVOC

AGROVOC is the largest controlled set of terms about agriculture available for public use and facilitates access and visibility of data across domains and languages. It is coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, and offers a structured collection of agricultural concepts, terms, definitions and relationships which are used to unambiguously identify resources, allowing standardized indexing processes and making searches more efficient.

AGROVOC uses semantic web technologies, linking to other multilingual knowledge organization systems and building bridges between datasets. The dataset is widely used in specialized as well as digital libraries and repositories for indexing content and text mining, and serves as a specialized tagging resource for content organization by FAO and third-party stakeholders.

More about AGRIS

The International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS) provides free access to millions of bibliographic records in 90 different languages. It is coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN.

AGRIS indexes books, journal articles, monographs, book chapters, datasets and grey literature – including unpublished scientific and technical reports, theses, dissertations and conference papers in the area of food and agriculture. AGRIS indexes bibliographic references but does not store the full text articles. AGRIS is supported by a community of data providers, partners and users. AGRIS ingests bibliographic metadata provided by the community and publishes it. The metadata is captured through either (a) pulling data through harvesting from clients or (b) by data submitted directly to AGRIS.

Advanced registration is required to participate to the webinar
