BURRA SKATE PARK OPENING EVENT
Goyder YAC is very excited to finally announce that the Burra Skate Park will be officially opened on Sunday 30th of May 11:30am- 4pm.
Come along with you skateboard, scooter or bike and have a go on the new skate park and pump track, as well as checking out the new nature play space- all ages welcome!
The YMCA skate club will also be at the skate park to provide free skate boarding workshops throughout the event...as well providing a special exhibition for us all. They will have all the skate boards and safety gear available or you can bring your own.

SA Power Networks will be in the BURRA area in May and June completing aerial inspections by helicopter of our infrastructure as part of an essential preparation program for th e2021 bushfire season. Where necessary, ground patrols will be completed by asset inspectors: they will carry photo ID so you know who they are. Where our infrastructure is in paddocks, this may involve access to private land using our easement. If you have any concerns, please call SA Power Networks on 13 12 61 in business hours. You can also search the SA Power Networks website for all sorts of information.

Illegal Dumping
|
Sadly, Council has observed an increase in illegal dumping in our region.
Illegal dumping poses a risk to the health and safety of our community, our staff and our environment.
Used syringes, dirty nappies, rotting food, household waste, mattresses, kitty litter, building waste and garden clippings are just some of the things Council staff have removed from our region in recent weeks. Some dumped items have required plant machinery to lift them.
Under The Local Nuisance & Litter Control Act 2016 (SA) there are large penalties for non compliance. $120,000 maximum penalty, 2 years maximum imprisonment and $1,000 expiation.

“Healthy and Connected communities” is at the core of the Regional Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (RPHWP) for the Northern Group of Councils (NGC) comprising Clare & Gilbert Valleys, Regional Council of Goyder and Northern Areas Council.
The purpose of the RPHWP to identify public health priorities for the region and to establish a coordinated approach towards promoting community health and wellbeing.
Through a community survey undertaken last year, and in-depth research to understand our various communities, the Draft Regional Public Health and Wellbeing Plan has been developed.
The Northern Group of Councils are seeking your feedback on the Draft Plan to ensure it meets the needs of our diverse community.

The COVID SAfe Check-In is one of the most important tools we have in tracing the potential spread of COVID-19 during an exposure or outbreak. When an outbreak occurs, if everyone has been checking in consistently, we are less likely to need measures like widespread requirements for isolation, lockdowns and border closures.
Launch of Operation Trace
SA Police have launched Operation ‘Trace’ today, using plain clothes police officers to ensure that people are checking in and providing their contact details when they enter a business or attend a public activity.
Police officers will also be ensuring businesses have QR codes displayed, are providing a secure hard copy check-in option and are ensuring as far as possible that customers and patrons are checking in.
Full details and requirements in relation to using the COVID SAfe Check-In system are in the Emergency Management (Public Activities No 24) (COVID-19) Direction 2021.
Keeping physical contact tracing records secure
Following an incident of a person misusing information taken from physical contact tracing records at a business, we would like to help you ensure your physical contact tracing records are kept secure.
Contact tracing records must be kept in a way that reduces the risk of them being copied, photographed, taken or used by another person (other than an authorised officer). Here are some ideas to help you reduce the risk of your customer’s details being copied:
- Place paper-based contact tracing records where they can be supervised by a staff member as well as regularly removed and replaced with a new contact tracing record sheet.
- Provide customers with individual check-in sheets that customers can fill in and put into a secure box. Individual check-in sheet templates are available at www.sa.gov.au/checkin.
- Store records in a safe location at the end of each day. After 28 days they should be disposed of securely. If your business does not have bins specifically for confidential documents, please shred or rip the records into small pieces before disposing.
- You can scan the records and keep them electronically instead of retaining all paper records for 28 days. If you do this, please ensure your system is secure and the electronic records are fully deleted/disposed of securely after 28 days.

Public Activities Direction Update
The Public Activities Direction has been updated in South Australia and came into effect on Friday 7 May 2021. The Direction amendment prohibits interference with COVID SAfe Check-In QR codes.
This means a person who interferes with or removes a sign containing a dedicated COVID SAfe Check-In QR code without authorisation is in breach of the Direction and may receive an expiation notice under the Emergency Management Act 2004.

Rolling back your Health and Wellbeing clocks @ Burra Bowls!
What is Roll Back the Clock?
Health-related reasons (including physical and mental health as well as disability or poor health or injury) are the main barriers for older Australians participating in sport or physical activities.
This new program will get you out and about, doing fun activities, learning about good health and socialising with community. It is based around the government initiative of “Finding your 30” minutes of activity.
Sessions will be adapted for individuals and benefits include flexibility, muscular endurance and strength and in some instances aerobic/cardiovascular exercise. Currently, only 25 per cent of Australians over 65 meet the Department of Health physical activity guidelines of 30 minutes of activity per day.

What are the benefits? The program offers a low-cost opportunity for older Australians to take part in accessible activities and provides opportunities for those socially isolated to engage with new people and education. In addition to the health benefits, engaging in physical activity and group sports for older Australians provides increasingly important opportunities for socialisation, peer-support, and conversation that reduces the possibility for loneliness related physical and mental illnesses.
What’s involved?
A two-part activity for the body and mind that incorporates bowls, functional training, fitness and wellness education and socialisation. Sessions will be adapted for individuals and benefits will range from enabling participants to perform activities of daily life more easily, to withstanding injuries and providing a sense of accomplishment and achievement. Fitness gains from the program will include flexibility, muscular endurance and strength and in some instances aerobic/cardiovascular exercise.
What’s in a standard one-hour session?
30 minutes of activity/exercise (body). These components will be fun, safe with functional exercises incorporating bowls, rubber balls and resistance bands.
30 minutes of a wellness education/ social session (mind). Engaging, interactive topics which may include, why exercise helps, how to age well, healthy brain, mindfulness, what is the pelvic floor it and how it helps, eating well and moving right.

Regional Growth Fund 2021 -2022
This year $15 million has been allocated for the Regional Growth Fund
The 2021 -22 Fund will support:
1. Up to $5 million for the Regional Growth Fund Competitive Grants - applications are Now Open
and will close 12 noon on Monday 12 July 2021
2. $10 million for the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development to commit to strategic regional growth projects - open year round for applications
Applicants can seek grants form $50,000 up to $2 million.

Grassroots Grants program
2021/22: NOW OPEN
Grassroots Grants put community at the heart of sustainably managing our region’s natural resources, including soil, water, biodiversity and pest plants and animals.
Applications for the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board’s 2021/22 round of Grassroots Grants funding open at 9am, 30 April 2021 and close at 5pm on 11 June 2021. Local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and volunteers are invited to apply for a share in the $221,000 funding pool, with grants between $1,000 and $10,000 (+GST) available for on-ground activities such as weed control, revegetation, watercourse restoration, community education, erosion and pest management.

On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure & Rebate Scheme
South Australian primary producers in drought affected areas can now apply to the On-farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme under a new round of funding.
You may be eligible to receive a rebate of up to 25% (max $25,000) for the cost of purchasing, installing and repairing on-farm water infrastructure for livestock and permanent horticulture.
