Hello neighbors!
May 10, 2021, Brookwood Place HOA Board held its Monthly Meeting via socially distanced in-person and also on Zoom for those who could not attend in-person. In attendance, both in-person and Zoom, were 2021 Board members: Thom Tomlinson, Ron Davis, Michelle Kring, Denise Fast, Kevin Knipp and Ashley Shadel.
Topics of discussion included:
- Pool opening, rules and rental price
- Upcoming social events
- City permits
- Ash trees
- Landscaping
- Current neighborhood architecture requests
- Full meeting details are in the current minutes (minutes will be reviewed, corrected and approved at the next board meeting)
- Establishing a BWP Neighborhood Volunteer List for future neighborhood needs; If you are interested, contact Thom Tomlinson

Treka Henry has vacated her position as BWP Board Secretary and we thank her for her years of service! We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. The role of the secretary is to attend board meetings (once per month), take minutes, monitor BWP email account and website and send the monthly newsletter. Summer kick-off! One More Scoop Ice Cream Truck will be visiting our pool parking lot to help us kick off our pool season.

Spring cleaning? Mark your calendar for our neighborhood garage sales Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12. We will advertise on social media and post signage the week prior.

Our "neighbor" can expect some company this weekend... the pool will open for the season on Saturday, May 29!
This year, there will be no additional guest restrictions. You may find the current pool rules here.
One change for 2021 is an slight increase for pool rental rates. See below for rental rates. Contact Michelle Kring at chelleyo@everestkc.net with rental requests. No rental allowed on holidays (Memorial or Labor Day) or July 2, 3 or 4.

Wanting to make updates to your home? Great!
In order to ensure the work aligns with our Bylaws, residents must remember to contact the Architecture Chairperson regarding any exterior changes. Projects must be approved by the architecture committee before the work begins, EVEN IF YOU'VE OBTAINED APPROVAL FROM THE CITY. This includes any exterior changes or additions, new roofs, fences, landscape changes, driveways, patios, decks, painting the exterior of your home (even if it is the same color choice) and any project for the outside of your home. Bylaws can be found here.
Wondering what requires a building permit?
According to the City of Lenexa website, any remodeling or construction projects in your home that relate to framing, electrical, mechanical or plumbing require a building permit. Cosmetic changes such as painting, cabinetry, carpeting, siding, lawn sprinklers and landscaping improvements do not require a permit. For additional information, please refer to the City's Remodeling Project Permits website. Please keep in mind any permits obtained from the city will also need approval from the board.

There are several Ash trees in the neighborhood that are a risk hazard for the sidewalks and streets that need action from our neighbors. The city of Lenexa may take action, so it is important to remove any hazardous trees, especially near sidewalks and streets as soon as possible.

BWP Residents' children can advertise their services in the monthly newsletter free of charge. We will have a section with the child's name, contact info, and services offered (ie: mowing, babysitting, etc.) If a more extensive ad is wanted, a regular ad (see below) can be purchased. Our regular advertising will continue to be offered. If you have a business or service that you wish to advertise to our neighborhood, please consider using our newsletter as the advertising avenue. The BWP resident costs are quite low and will reach all of our BWP residents.
Payments should be made to "Brookwood Place Homes Association" and mailed to our address: PO Box 15372, Lenexa, KS 66285.
