BHS class of 2023

Class of 2023 - May 2021 Updates

BHS 2023 Families,

It’s hard to believe there’s only a month left of Sophomore year!

We want to share some answers we’ve received from Hal Mason about the upcoming MCAS tests and share some takeaways from our monthly PTO Executive Board meeting on Wednesday, May 19.

MCAS Testing

  • What is the MCAS scholarship?
The main scholarships tied to MCAS are the Adams Scholarship and Koplik Certificate of Mastery.

  • What are safety procedures for fully remote kids to take the tests?
All exams will be at BHS with a minimum 3 feet of distance. Students will be masked. Students with any COVID symptoms will not be allowed to enter the building.

  • Can we confirm the MCAS science graduation requirement is eliminated for 2023s?
Competency in MCAS Science was granted with "successful completion of a relevant high school course".

  • Are these MCAS tests being scored?
Yes. High School MCAS exams will be scored. Results generally come at the end of the summer.

  • What happens if they don’t pass?
Students who do not pass (or who do not take) the exam will be scheduled for a make-up exam in the Fall of 2021. Class of 2023 students must pass both the ELA and Math MCAS to be eligible to graduate.

PTO Executive Board Meeting Notes

  • We reviewed 30 grant requests from BHS staff. The PTO has about $40,000 to spend, which is about half of the total requests.

  • To help bridge the funding gap, many requested items will be added to an Amazon Wishlist - stay tuned for details and a shopping link.

  • PTO will fund a school-wide summer reading book, Just Mercy. Do you also want to read it, and then gather as a community to discuss it this fall? Let us know your thoughts, email 2023reps.bhs.pto@gmail.com
Senior Block Party will be held instead of Prom on June 1st at 6:00pm.
Sign up to help with decorations if you have some time this week.

Other Housekeeping Reminders...

  • Remind your students to check their BHS email so they receive the latest schedule updates and school-wide announcements.

  • Make sure you’re receiving the weekly PTO eBlast on Sunday nights! It contains links to important information about events happening in and around BHS. If you’re not getting it, you can sign up here so you’re set for the ‘21-’22 school year.

  • Make sure you’re reading Darby’s weekly Guidance Update emails, also on Sunday nights! In addition to Darby’s weekly email, there is a lot of important information on the BHS Guidance Department web page, found HERE

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns, and enjoy the beautiful spring weather!
