WGC Emergency Response Network Request - $1,000 - Can You Help?
The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County (WGC) is working to raise $1,000 through our Emergency Response Network (ERN) on behalf of our nonprofit partners at the Howard County Autism Society to support one of their clients who has been hospitalized with Covid-19.
This woman is part of the Howard County Autism Society Latino Parent Support Group. Now in its third year, this group has provided critical outreach and support to Spanish-speaking families in the autism community, providing critical support, education, and help for parents to acquire important advocacy skills on behalf of their children. They meet regularly and have grown to over 35 members. During the pandemic these members of our community have been particularly hard-hit with the challenges of virtual learning, language barriers, illness and job losses.
The woman we are looking to support was hospitalized recently with Covid-19, and the entire family is now ill. She has a 19 year-old son with autism and two other boys, and she is the main caregiver for her autistic son. Because they have been ill, nobody in the family has been able to work for several weeks. They are undocumented and don’t qualify for - and are hesitant to reach out for supports. The financial impact for her and her family will linger for many months.
On behalf of our partners at the Howard County Autism Society we are asking for $1,000 to support this woman and her family.
