Welcome to the sixteenth edition of the B&NES Library Volunteers newsletter, The 331

In this edition we celebrate Crime Reading Month with the Queen of Crime, point you in the direction of some fantastic resources and talks, announce the news on eNewspapers, introduce you to the newest feature on LibrariesWest and, most importantly, say Thank You!
 

Libraries Update:

Bath One Stop Shop, Bath Central Library, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton Library & Information Centres will be opening: Monday to Thursday 10am – 5pm and Friday 10am – 4.30pm.

Library Services:

  • Main library areas are available for browsing
  • Public computers can be used for a 30 minute session on a first come, first serve basis
  • Self study areas remain closed
  • Return books through designated drop-boxes on the ground floor of Bath Central Library, and at the entrances of Keynsham and Midsomer Norton libraries.
One Stop Shop Services:
  • Self-service telephones (for access to council services, welfare support and Citizens Advice)
  • Certification of documents
  • Issue of Welfare Support Vouchers
  • Self-service payment kiosk (taking card payments only)
  • Issue of Diamond Travel Cards
  • Purchase of garden waste sacks
  • Support with Blue Badges is available. Call Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41 to make an appointment
  • Bath One Stop Shop will provide support to buy a parking permit; you can also buy a parking permit online
  • Keynsham and Midsomer Norton One Stop Shops will run pre-booked Registrar appointments

You must follow social distancing protocols, use the hand sanitisers provided, and face coverings are required, unless you have a special exemption, in line with the latest government guidance on face coverings.

Volunteer's Week
The 1st to the 7th of June is Volunteer's Week and we're taking the opportunity to thank all of you who have helped over the last year.

Crime Reading Month

June is Crime Reading Month, organised by the Crime Writers Association.

We're going to be recommending books, podcasts, groups and events throughout the month. We also have some special guest posts from local crime authors, so do check the blog!

Hay Festival

The famous festival is in full swing and runs until the 6th of June.

A book lovers dream, the festival features authors, new and established, discussing books, old and new, and a huge variety of subjects!

It's all online and free, so start browsing the schedule at www.hayfestival.com
Mental Health Awareness Week

The 10th - 16th of March was Mental Health Awareness Week, and we've collected together resources, ideas and links to support good mental health.

We have also been promoting the Reading Well Collection, a selection of books chosen by professionals to help and support various aspects of health for all ages.

eNewspapers

If you use Libby for eComics and eMagazines, you'l have seen a new options under 'Extras': eNewspapers!

Through Libby you 'borrow' Pressreader, which allows you access to a huge amount of eNewspapers.

LibrariesWest Website News
There's a new feature on the LibrariesWest website!

Search for a book and get reviews, other books by the author and reading recommendations. Play the video above to see how!
