CCHS Newsletter 26 - 14th June 2021
Weekly Message from Mr Harding, Executive Head Teacher
I hope that everyone had a restful half term break.
We have come back to a school missing our Year 13s and Year 11s and it does seem strange without them.
Their centre assessed grades will soon be sent off to the exam boards to be moderated and then we'll wait and see what comes back in August!
I have to say that I've been very impressed with the vast majority of students after their return to school.  Whilst the Delta variant of the virus may cause us some issues in the coming months we hope to run as normal a school day as possible.  We have obviously kept some mitigations in place but I suspect that the guidance we receive from both the LA and the government will be "fluid" as we approach the summer break. As always, I will keep everyone up to date as soon as anything changes.

Year 11 'Dress for Success'
On 28th May our Year 11s had their 'Dress for Success' day on their last official day of term.  Due to restrictions we weren't allowed to hold the usual full leavers celebration, but we were able to hold a socially distanced final assembly in the sports hall with songs from Dylan W, Zia G and Tiffany S, as well as cup cakes and some fun certificates were awarded.
GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR YEAR 11s.

Advice on Social Media Use
The information below is from the Safeguarding Leads at Staffordshire.gov in reply to national concerns over a small number of students using socian media and other links to facilitate online bullying and arguments over these platforms.  The information shows the recommended ages for access to certain social media platforms.

Book Recommendations
Another book suitable for teenagers to read.
Some will be linked to a particular curriculum area, others will simply be books that your child might be interested in reading or that you might both want to read and compare notes.
Book of a Thousand Days
by Shannon Hale (Audiobook)

When a beautiful princess refuses to marry the prince her father has chosen, her father is furious and locks her in a tower.  She has seven long years of solitude to think about her insolence.  But the princess is not entirely alone - she has her maid, Dashti.  Petulant and spoilt, the princess eats the food in their meagre store as if she were still at court, and Dashti soon realises they must either escape or slowly starve. But during their captivity, resourceful Dashti discovers that there is something far more sinister behind her princess's fears of marrying the prince, and when they do break free from the tower, they find a land laid to waste and the kingdom destroyed. They were safe in the tower, now they are at the mercy of the evil prince with a terrible secret.

Available for free on Sora.  Sora link: https://soraapp.com/home - this is for all Year 9 or Year 10 pupils. If any pupils can't remember their logins (they are written in their yellow books) then they can email at efo@ch-pb.com

Students are still being encouraged to sign up for a free online tool recently produced by a charity called Read for Good. Students are sent unique web links where they register their reading and the number of minutes they have spent reading, which then contributes to a 'school total'. It's really easy to use - for pupils to be able to log a variety of different texts on this, e.g. article, comic, book.  The school's page can be found here https://trackmyread.org/public/I9Cku4VoTlyyCjaPdWq4

Thank you to all of the students who have already registered their reading.  Miss Ford is very pleased with your progress!

Have your circumstances changed recently?
Parents claiming some benefits can claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Staffordshire school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. School meals are a good way to ensure that your child eats well at lunchtime and you can save yourself time and money.

Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps their school. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives.
