Carolyn Lewis to lead board of education

Canon Carolyn Lewis has been invited by Bishop Libby, after consultation and agreement, to lead the work of Derby Diocesan Board of Education for an interim period, initially for a year from September 2021.

Carolyn is currently Diocesan Director of Education in Leicester, and will undertake this new role in addition to her role in the Diocese of Leicester. She will become one of the first Executive Diocesan Directors of Education (DDE) in the Church of England, and this is a pioneering step for both Derby and Leicester’s education teams.

Bishop Libby said: “ Our Church Schools are examples of the good news of the Kingdom of God: their work and life are at the heart of the Diocese of Derby. I am delighted that Carolyn has agreed to take on leading our Board of Education through this next season, sharing her experience of leadership and passion for Christ across both the Diocese of Derby and the Diocese of Leicester.”

Derbyshire Mind shares its thanks

Derbyshire Mind, recipient of the Bishop of Derby's Harvest Appeal 2020, has written to Bishop Libby with thanks for the fantastic achievement.

Jenny Hotchkiss, the chief executive, said: "This is a fantastic amount and we are sincerely grateful to you. The effort the Diocese has made is amazing and we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who supported the appeal and for their generous donations.

"As you know, Derbyshire Mind is a local charity focused on supporting people with mental health problems, and improving mental health and wellbeing for people across Derbyshire and Derby City. As such it seems as though there is never enough money to help us do all the work we would want to and all donations and gifts are therefore much appreciated."

Movement for Good - £1k awards

For the third successive year, Ecclesiastical Insurance has launched its Movement for Good awards, donating £1k to 500 eligible charities to provide financial assistance to help make a real difference.

The awards are open to ‘exempt charities’ so churches can be nominated for a donation.

You can only nominate once, however, the more nominations a church or charity gets, the greater its chance of receiving a £1k donation, so start spreading the word to your friends and family using the Ecclesiastical handy toolkits.

The closing date for nominations is Sunday 13 June 2021.
