BBC Young Chorister 2021

Applications are now being accepted for BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2021. 

Singers aged 10 - 16 apply online by submitting two short films of themselves singing a Christmas carol or song and a sacred song such as a hymn, classical solo, spiritual, inspirational, gospel or worship song. The closing date is Monday 14 June 2021.

From all the entries received 5 girls and 5 boys will be selected to go through to the radio and tv competition in October to sing in front of an expert panel of judges. The winner and runner up will each receive a trophy and the chance to feature on BBC Radio and the Winner will appear on Songs of Praise.

From the Bishop of Derby's office

The Revd June Scott and the Revd Jenn Willis, Derby Diocesan Clergy Widows’ and Widowers’ Officers, stood down from this role with effect from 31 May 2021.

The Very Revd Geoffrey and Mrs Hazel Marshall have been appointed the new Derby Diocesan Clergy Widows’ and Widowers’ Officers with effect from 1 June, 2021. Geoffrey and Hazel can be contacted at brecondeanery@btinternet.com

The Revd Paul Desborough, Assistant Curate of Derby St Alkmund and St Werburgh, has been appointed part-time Priest-in-Charge (to be known as Enabling Minister) of Sinfin Moor LEP and part-time Bishop’s Advisor for New Housing.

The Revd Stella Greenwood, Assistant Curate of Swadlincote and Hartshorne, has been appointed Priest-in-Charge of Etwall and Egginton and Assistant Curate (known as Minister Responsible) of the parishes of Dalbury, Sutton on the Hill and Trusley (within the benefice of Boylestone, Church Broughton, Dalbury, Longford, Long Lane, Radbourne, Sutton on the Hill and Trusley).

The Revd Nigel Elliott, Vicar of Sinfin, has announced his retirement. Mr Elliott’s last day in post will be 31 July, with his retirement taking effect from 1 August 2021. Mr Elliott will be moving away from the diocese in retirement.

The Revd David Higgon, formerly Associate Priest in Crich and South Wingfield, retired on 24 April 2021. He will be granted Permission to Officiate in the North West Charge in the Diocese of Moray, Ross, and Caithness in the Scottish Episcopalian Church.

Movement for Good - £1k awards

For the third successive year, Ecclesiastical Insurance has launched its Movement for Good awards, donating £1k to 500 eligible charities to provide financial assistance to help make a real difference.

The awards are open to ‘exempt charities’ so churches can be nominated for a donation.

You can only nominate once, however, the more nominations a church or charity gets, the greater its chance of receiving a £1k donation, so start spreading the word to your friends and family using the Ecclesiastical handy toolkits.

The closing date for nominations is Sunday 13 June 2021.
