EUROPA CANTAT 2021

Concert Tickets on Sale!

Yes, there will be live concerts in Ljubljana!

We are excited to give you a wonderful line-up: a combination of invited vocal groups and choirs from Europe, and top-notch Slovenian ensembles.

Also part of the programme: various National Youth Choirs and the EuroChoir!

A dedicated concert cycle 'Listen to Slovenia' will showcase Slovenian choirs and choral tradition. We hope that our choir music will become your cœur music, and perhaps even the new core music for your repertoire!

Full concert schedule and ticketing here.

Online Educational Programme

EUROPA CANTAT TV will broadcast a diverse educational programme each day, from morning until late afternoon.

We'll kick off our days wth the introduction of this day's programme, and continue the morning with reading sessions by different music publishers - and of course the Open Singing! Open Singing will be brought to you in a hybrid way; our conductor Jan Schumacher and a small choir will be with you live from the studio in Ljubljana, and we'll all join in from wherever we are!

There is one Discovery Atelier per day, starting around lunchtime (find out more here), and the afternoon is dedicated to daily PULSE sessions. Interesting topics with even more fascination speakers! Click here for more info about the PULSE programme.

#BenefitsOfSinging

ECA Online Campaign | 19 May - 31 July 2021

We at the European Choral Association have a vision:
A world where everybody experiences the benefits of collective singing, and we channel our efforts to make this world come true.

Today more than ever, we need to act together. ECA with its member organisations, choirs and individuals, as representatives from all over Europe and beyond, to unify our voices and bring choral music to the attention of our communities and the agendas of decision-makers, both at the national and international level.

Therefore, from 19 May to 31 July, we will carry out an online campaign on the benefits of collective singing.

We strongly encourage you to develop an individualised, national or regional call to action and link it to any existing activity you’re already engaging with. Develop your own call to action, which should answer the question: 'Singing is good for me, what can I do now in my surroundings to let others experience the benefits of collective singing?' or link the campaign to any of your existing content.

Translate the campaign contents

A big contribution you could make is to help us translate the contents of this campaign into your own language (and publish them, to reach a broader audience). We already have the graphics available in English, Dutch, Turkish, German, Russian, with Italian, Serbian, Arabic and Romanian on the way. Find them all on our website

Multiply & reach out

In order to reach as many people as possible, we would encourage you to multiply the messages of the campaign in your country during the campaign run. We want to reach people at a national level and showcase the benefits of singing through our online campaign. Spread the contents of this toolkit to your network or any other partners which you think could be interested in joining this online campaign.

Interact and use the #BenefitsOfSinging hashtag

Let's make some noise together and remind everybody about the #BenefitsOfSinging !

Collective Singing: At the Heart of Revitalising Society in Europe

ECA Open Letter

This month, ECA calls on the European institutions to recognise the benefits of singing for society, both in the transition out of the pandemic and in the long term as part of a sustainable future. Collective singing has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic, but it also has the potential to recitalise society and should be empowered t do so by institutions at all administrative levels.

Federació Catalana d'Entitats Corals

In memoriam Jordi Subirà

On the death of Jordi Subirà, founder of FCEC and board member since 1982, president (2000-2003) and member of the organizing committee of the 2003 EUROPA CANTAT XV Festival in Barcelona.

Jordi Subirà began his relationship with the choral world as a singer in the Orfeó Laudate and the Orfeó Català, and in the 1960s he became involved in federal activity through Secretariat d’Orfeons de Catalunya which later became the FCEC (Catalan Federation of Choirs) where he worked with Oriol Martorell and created and was responsible for 23 years of the Barcelona Delegation, to later hold the Presidency of the FCEC (2000 -2003) and the Vice-Presidency (2003-2006).

With his constant, discreet, and totally disinterested work, he organized cycles of concerts, conducting courses, master classes and activities with internationally renowned conductors in order to dynamize and improve the choral singing in Barcelona and Catalonia. He also took part in the organization of major choral events, including the Europa Cantat XV Festival held in Barcelona in 2003.

Those of us who have been fortunate enough to collaborate and learn from him in the choral world will always be grateful for his mastery and testimony. And we will remember him as a great worker of the dissemination of choral values, responsible in the management, and also his calm, confident, kind, generous, sensitive temperament, his always adequate answers -sometimes occurring-, and the hours of meetings and meetings at the trade he ran: "Cereria Subirà", candle shop considered the oldest trade in Barcelona.

Barcelona City Council recognized Jordi's work with awarding him the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit in 2014.

Ung i Kor

In memoriam Karl Høgset

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Høgset on 2 June.

Carl founded the Norwegian National Youth Choir together with Joar Rørmark in 1987 and he conducted it until 2003. He also founded Grex Vocalis (The Singing Flock) in 1971 and conducted it until the choir's magnificent final concert in 2019. Under his leadership, both choirs won several prizes at the most renowned European choral competitions.

Carl created the Singing Technique Programme, presented in a booklet including exercises recorded on CD and video. In 2007, he was appointed Knight of the Order of St. Olav by the King of Norway for his achievements in the choral field both at home and abroad.

Carl helped set a new standard for choral singing in Norway, and throughout his long and illustrious carreer, he taught and inspired generations of singers. His warmth and musicality will be missed, but Carl Høgset leaves behind an incredible mucial legacy that will live on.
