Volunteers' Week 2021

National Volunteer’s Week is an annual UK wide celebration of volunteers taking place each year between 1-7 June. The overarching theme this year is ‘Time to Say Thanks’. This 37th annual Volunteers’ Week is taking place during the #MonthofCommunity which runs throughout June and brings together organisations with a range of events in order to encourage us all to think about and join in with activities happening in our local communities.

New Vision for Birmingham Children and Families

4000 children and young people contributed to a new and ambitious vision for the city. We know children and families have had a tough experience during recent times, so it’s even more important that as Birmingham bounces back, we prioritise their development, outcomes and experience.

WMCA Mental Health Listening Exercise – Survey

BVSC Research, alongside our partners from the Institute for Community Research and Development at the University of Wolverhampton and the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University are gathering information from across the West Midlands to inform the focus of the forthcoming Mental Health Commission which is due to be launched in summer 2021.

Community Groups are Receiving their easyfundraising Donations!

Community organisations using easyfundraising to raise money are receiving their latest donations this month, totalling over £900k. If your organisation is one of them, well done! Look out for an email telling you how much you’ve raised. If you haven’t registered with easyfundraising yet, give it a try. Your organisation will receive extra donations when your supporters shop online with leading online retailers like Amazon, John Lewis, Just Eat, Argos and over 5000 more. There is no cost to register and use and it’s an effective way to keep funds coming in as people shop online more and more.

Leadership Development: Understanding Change in the Third Sector

In mid-December 2020, BVSC two online leadership development sessions for voluntary organisations were held online focusing on navigating change in the third sector. These sessions built on a series of activities we have been running together to provide spaces for third sector leaders to reflect on change within voluntary action, in connection with our ESRC-funded Change in the Making research.

BVSC has updated its guidance intended to support Voluntary, Community and Faith organisations and Social Enterprises in Birmingham to understand what will be permissible under the Roadmap C-19 restrictions.

Funding Opportunities
Community Grants 2021/22
Near Neighbours grants will open in July 2021.  If you are a grassroots project interested in bringing people of different backgrounds together through local partnership work and in your neighbourhood, we would love to hear from you! To receive the criteria & guidelines when they are published, please register your interest with us now by email, with Debbie Saunders on debbiesaunders@cofebirmingham.com


 
Tesco Community Grants
Tesco Community Grants helps to fund thousands of local projects across the country. Grants will be awarded to voluntary or community organisations (including registered charities/companies), schools, health bodies (e.g. Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), NHS Hospital Trust, Foundation Trust), Parish/Town Councils, local authorities and social housing providers.

The National Lottery Community Fund’s Bringing People Together fund
The Bringing People Together funding can support projects that will build stronger connections across communities, and improve the infrastructure and conditions that are needed to strengthen these connections.

Asda Foundation - Healthy Holiday Grant
This grant is designed to support groups that typically would be holding summer holiday activities to ensure children are provided with a hot meal. If social distancing is relaxed before school holidays, then standard (Transforming Communities Improving Lives (TCIL) criteria would apply.  If social distancing hasn’t relaxed, the Asda Foundation will provide grants for groups to deliver provisions to children at home.

Screwfix Foundation (UK)
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to local charities and not for profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and community facilities for of those in need in the UK.

Funding to Help Young People Volunteer in Response to C-19 (UK)
UK-based volunteering or community service projects, organised and run by people under 30 years old, can apply for up to £500 for actions that directly or indirectly respond to C-19. The funding is being made available through the Alec Dickson Trust. Applications must align with Public Health England guidance on how to volunteer safely during recent times. The deadline for applications is 8 pm on the 23rd June 2021.

Birmingham Back to Backs Reminiscence Team were one of 450 organisations and businesses to be shortlisted for a National Dementia Hero Award. The volunteer team also went on to take the first prize for the Dementia Friendly Business (Small/Medium) category.

#RespondRecoverReset: the voluntary sector and C-19 – Have your say!

Nottingham Trent University, together with the NCVO and Sheffield Hallam, are currently conducting the largest UK study exploring the impact of C-19 on the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector. The more organisations that take part in the study, the more impact this can have for the whole sector.
