Hello, Co-op friends and fans!

Photo: GM Dan.As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we recognize the men and women of our armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

If you've been in the store recently you may have noticed our new lane lights at the registers. Hopefully, this will help make checkout even more easy and breezy. Look for the LIT lane and prepare to be helped quickly and in a most friendly way by our terrific front end staff! (Thanks to grocery guy Elan for installing them for us!)

You may have also noticed that we've removed the direction arrows on the floor of the aisles. Consider this your invitation to roam freely, but do continue to be mindful of people's space and we are following the PG County guidelines requiring masks at all times in the store.

Memorial Day hours
Co-op is open regular hours Saturday and Sunday, but open 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday. The Pharmacy will be closed. (Please note: there is no curbside pick-up on Monday.)

Summer grillin' kick-off!
Photo: Grilling.Memorial Day is, for a grocery store, the unofficial kick-off to summer and grilling, picnics, and tasty refreshing beverages. So, while you think about diving into a pool or some other body of water we'll dive into Memorial Day food and drink! We'll have a display at the front of the store to get your grilling and picnic plans off to a swell start! Look for great items from the meat department - burgers (including our house made patties), hot dogs and steaks, (including varieties from our new regional meat supplier J.W. Treuth)! We'll have deli favorites coleslaw, potato salad, and more pre-packed and ready to roll. Vegetarians can hang right along with the meat-eaters on the grill these days, look for Beyond Meat burgers ready to impress your omnivore friends with their plant-based meatiness.

Everyone can agree that grilled vegetables are incredible so load up your cart with zucchini, Vidalia onions, peppers, and corn. You'll be glad you did! If you are new to grilling veggies, here's a swell guide to get you going: 5 Tips for How to Cook Grilled Vegetables Perfectly | EatingWell.

Want to impress friends and family with a home made smoky burger? Start with our fresh ground beef and then let this recipe take it to its delicious finish! Smoky Grilled Burgers Recipe | Co+op, welcome to the table.

Never grilled or pan seared a steak, but want to look like a pro? Check out this video from an old comrade of mine, Johnny as he shows you how it's done - How to Cook Great Steak | Co+op, welcome to the table.

What's your favorite summer holiday food?

Photo: Rotisserie Chicken.Don't have time to grill? We don't want you to miss out, so the Deli team will be whipping up picnic and barbecue favorites Saturday through Monday. We'll have crowd pleasing ribs, burgers, and hot dogs hot and ready for you along with all the picnic sides you can imagine! You can also always grab a fresh hot rotisserie chicken.

Cool refreshing drinks
Photo: American Guinness Brewery Ale.OK, so we've got the food covered, the entertainment will be up to you, but we can also help on the refreshment side of things. We've got so many cool refreshing drinks- from the classic to the alcoholic, to the health-filled! "Session" beers can be a go to for summer and we've got some nice local choices including a new one from the American Guinness brewery- Salt & Lime Ale - is expertly balanced with key lime puree and sea salt from the mouth of the Chesapeake. At a 5% ABV, it is a pale yellow ale with the locally-sourced, hand harvested sea salt adding a layer of complexity on the finish, counteracting the tartness from the limes. This is a limited edition brew, so get it while you can! Or how about a local brew from a local brewer? The Old Oriole Park beer is an award winner from Peabody Heights brewery and has a nice light body of a lager with a slight finish of cream flavor. Or Steady Eddie from local Union Brewing- an IPA that's both refreshing and complex. The lemony-herbal aromatics of Sorachi Ace hops spring out of a nice, light bodied wheat & honey malt base. Of course, we have old favorites like National Bohemia (Natty Boh, as I understand the locals call it).

Prefer wine? Sparkling prosecco or Rosés are the story for summer. Enjoy them chilled or add  fruit for an upscale, pretty and delicious summer beverage- Raspberry Wine "Cosmo" Recipe | Co+op, welcome to the table.

Photo: Non-alcoholic drinks.Want something without the alcohol? Look on the end cap at aisle 11, for some lovely non-alcoholic drinks that will make you feel fancy without the buzz, (or accompanying other undesirable effect of alcohol). Sparkling water with a slice of lime or other citrus or even mixed with mint or cucumber can also make a surprisingly delicious but light and healthful summer drink.
