From the publisher

I don't like to be too vocal about my opinions on local issues. I usually prefer to let our reporting speak for itself. We don't endorse candidates or publish unsigned editorials.

But when it comes to open, transparent government, I've got strong opinions. Our job is to ask questions on your behalf and get answers. In the U.S., we're not a direct democracy. And that's a good thing: You have other things to do. You don't have time to understand every issue and hold your elected officials accountable as your job. In a representative democracy, journalists and civil society organizations perform that vital function.

Unfortunately, the village of Mantua has a policy that makes it kinda hard for us to do our work. You can read about that policy in my column.

That's all for now! If you get any pictures of hail today, send 'em my way. See you back here Friday!
