Talking animal photojournalism

Jo-Anne recently went screen-to-screen with Graeme Greene to answer his questions about animal photojournalism. It’s a fantastic primer for anyone who’s been wondering what APJ is, how it operates, and who participates. “A mix of conservation, conflict and street photography,” Jo-Anne explains, this is the genre exposing animal lives kept hidden from view.

A 360° tour of HIDDEN

When I travel I love exploring galleries and exhibits. For obvious reasons I haven’t done that these last 14 months, and was so pleasantly surprised with our recent collaboration with f³ - freiraum für fotografie, who created a 360° virtual photography tour for HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene. Taking the tour felt like I was immersed in a trendy exhibition in Berlin. 5€ (free on Mondays) and about 15 minutes.

Greece’s fishing practices

Let’s journey from Germany to Greece, where our talented contributor Selene Magnolia has documented Greece’s commercial and farmed fishing in collaboration with Essere Animali. In 2019 Greece supplied 59% of the sea bass and sea bream sold in the EU and 22% worldwide. A big fish in a shrinking sea, WAM and EA show how Greece’s aqua-practices are hurting fish and the Mediterranean.
