In his address, Brett reflected on his own experience playing a variety of sports as a country kid. He said it was the unique sense of community he felt at the Geraldton Tennis Club that led him to make Tennis his "chosen" sport, where whole families across the full demographic spectrum would play, meet, mix, bond with, work with (yes, always plenty to do), and also support and encourage each other like an extended family (a tribe, if you like).
We have a great diversity here at EFLTC also, albeit a little more compartmentalised than I would like to see. I hope we can all work together at EFLTC to build stronger connections throughout the Club, between pennant and social players, between young and old, between brand-new and long-term members. That’s the stuff that makes us a real Club – a place I want to be because I know that’s where my friends will be. Or as that song goes…
“You wanna go where everybody knows your name.”
