Monthly Ministry and Education Leaders Meeting Invitation

PNCC is hosting Monthly Leaders Gatherings

You are invited to join us Wednesday, May 26th from 9-10am to meet other leaders in churches and education from across NC as we work to support Public Schools and NC's children. These are open meetings, so please feel free to invite friends and colleagues to join us as well!

Register in advance for this meeting:

(This is the same link for each monthly gathering during 2021 on the 4th Wednesday at 9am.)

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. (If you need to join late or leave early, you are welcome to do so!)

Here's our agenda:
  • Brief Introductions from those on the call
  • Announcements & Upcoming Events
  • Working Together Presentation: Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County
  • Next steps/Next Meeting Dates (This is a monthly call that you can join as you are able!)
These monthly gatherings are geared to clergy and lay leaders who are interested in supporting public schools, and school leaders interested in the intersections of faith and advocacy for public schools. You might be leading a group of volunteers with schools or chair the social justice committee or be clergy wanting to learn more, etc. You might also be church members who is an educator or want to start a group working on school support in your congregation. All are welcome!

Our hope is that this conversation builds a network of interested participants across the state in conversations and collective action to bring systemic change and justice for public schools, especially in more fully funding public education and creating equitable schools for all of NC's children. These are starting as informal meetings to start the conversation and build up leaders to keep reaching out further across the state.

It will be a time for introductions, a bit of teaching or discussion about current situations/policies/bills that are coming up, and a chance to support one another in the work. We know lots of people are doing this work of supporting our local schools in silos and in various counties, and we need people connecting to make a bigger impact, be encouraged, share ideas, etc.

Join us! Here is the meeting link:

Resource Alert

Author Dr. Noliwe Rooks has written Cutting School: The SEGRENOMICS of American Education" and it has a new forward by Diane Ravitch. Rooks will be the speaker at the Public Schools First NC Conference on October 9th, so now's a great chance to get her book and dive in over the summer.

"In an era characterized by levels of school segregation the country has not seen since the mid-twentieth century, cultural critic and American studies professor Noliwe Rooks provides a trenchant analysis of our separate and unequal schools and argues that profiting from our nation’s failure to provide a high-quality education to all children has become a very big business." https://thenewpress.com/books/cutting-school
