June Membership Meeting

Break the Hibernation at Arthur Mac's

Tuesday, June 8, 2021
7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Arthur Mac's Tap and Snack IN PERSON!
4006 MLK Jr Way

We are cautiously coming out of what feels like a long winter of hibernation and would like to see your beautiful faces.

Our thoughts are with those in our community who experienced health and/or financial difficulties and with those who lost loved ones over the past year. While this moment is both somber and optimistic, we would like to be light-hearted together, in-person, outdoors with food and booze! While following the current Covid protocols.

See the facebook event page here.

Affordable housing for Longfellow

May meeting recap

Neighbors who participated in our May meeting heard an update about the RCD affordable housing project in Longfellow (3801 MLK Jr Way) on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and MacArthur Ave. The proposed project would provide 77 affordable apartments for families and individuals in a new mixed-use, transit-oriented development. Located just three blocks away from MacArthur BART station and in close proximity to downtown Oakland, this development would provide residents access to a variety of local and regional amenities including schools, parks, a public library and a full-scale grocery store. The project will also include approximately 2,000 square feet of community-serving commercial space on the
ground floor.

The property would provide one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for low-income individuals and families earning between 20-60% of the area median income (AMI). Nearly half of the apartments will be reserved for extremely low-income households earning 30% AMI or less. Thirty-two of these apartments will also be dedicated to serving formerly homeless individuals and families. See more information and stats on the project in the attachment.

RCD would really appreciate a letter of support from north Oakland neighbors like you! There is an important funding deadline coming up, and if you're able and willing to write in support of the project please send it to Jessica at: JSheldon@rcdhousing.org and see the attached example letter that you can edit, sign and send back.

Thanks again to Jessica Sheldon who shared the RCD update, and to the many of you who joined us!
