Pulsar Tutorials

I knew that I was going to invest a lot of time quilting Pulsar, so I made a point of sharing as many tips and tutorials as I could while I worked on the quilt. I've compiled the grouping of new content that I created as a result of the quilt in this newsletter.

Pulsar Finish & Pattern Release

I am so, so excited to get to share the finished Pulsar quilt with you today! The Pulsar digital quilt pattern is also complete and available as of today in the Quilting Jetgirl digital pattern shop

A pulsar is a type of rotating neutron star that emits regular pulses of radio waves. My goal with this design was to capture the sense of wonder I have felt looking up at the stars, feeling only my pulse slowly beating. To represent the beating of my heart, I quilted radiating stars enlarging outward in the background. To represent the rotating aspect of a pulsar, I rotated the direction of the dense vertical lines in the background used to help define and emphasize the radiating stars. All quilting was done (over 7 weeks) with a walking foot on my domestic Juki sewing machine.

Are you ready to let your fabric shine? The Pulsar digital quilt pattern is a modern take on a classic star. The pattern uses 5 fabrics (a background fabric and 4 feature fabrics) to create a pulsing, radiating star. The striking design comes together quickly and the pattern offers full color illustrations, a coloring page, and alternate colorways to help you make your next quilt. Even better, you can choose from the 5 offered sizes: crib, baby, lap (this is the size I just finished), queen, and king.

Pulsar is on sale in my pattern shop as a digital pattern at a special introductory price of $10 through Sunday, May 30th. Once you make a Pulsar quilt of your own, you can share it via social media using the hashtag #PulsarQuilt.

Pulsar Tips & Tutorials

While I created the No-Waste Flying Geese Tutorial & Top Tips post previously, this is a great tutorial to reference when piecing the Pulsar quilt!
I shared about marking quilting reference lines on the quilt top while it was still on my design wall. Another complimentary tip post is my Tips for Using a Hera Marker.
This simple Pin Basting Tip kept me from having any tucks or backing edges folded into my quilting!
This video talks through tips to handle quilt bulk when working on a domestic machine.

Bokeh Quilt Along

The Bokeh Quilt Along is almost over! If you have been sewing or quilting along, your final day to submit an image of your quilt top or finished quilt to the linkup to be eligible for the prize giveaways is Monday, May 31st. I'm impressed with the beauty and variety of the quilts that were made and so excited to hear so many quilters found piecing inset curve stars to be easier than they feared!

WIP versus UFO Discussion

At the end of April, I hosted a great conversation about the difference between a Work in Progress (WIP) and UnFinished Object (UFO). These community discussions always create rich and interesting comments, so this is a reminder to be sure to take the time to leave your thoughts and go back to check how others responded. I appreciate the diversity of opinions that were shared; there is no one right or wrong answer and it's clear we are all doing what we can to keep quilting fun and productive for ourselves.

Teaching

I had a great time with the Desert Quilters of Nevada last week! I spent a day teaching about Thread Painting and a day exploring quilt design and mini mini quilts with members of their guild.

Note that I will be teaching a Sunburst workshop with Gotham Quilts in July, which is open to registration to anyone interested!

If you or your guild is interested in a virtual lecture or workshop, I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you! You can contact me for more information at yvonne@quiltingjetgirl.com.
When one quilt along wraps up, I start thinking about what to design and plan for the next one! I'd love to know if there is something you would love to see put together in a quilt along format. Just hit reply to let me know your thoughts!

Happy quilting,
