The Return of Competitive Sport

It's really exciting to see so many sporting events and competitions back on the calendar this spring and summer. We know it's been a long haul to be able to return to sport safely. It seems as if there's finally light at the end of the tunnel and athletes with disabilities are getting back to regular training and competition. This month in our blog post, "The Comeback of Competition," we're highlighting a few key competition planning strategies as we continue to manage athlete health and safety during COVID.

We're also excited to announce that Caroline Casey, Founder of The Valuable 500 will be one of the keynote speakers at the 2021 Adapted Sport Leadership and Business Symposium (LABS). If you're not familiar with The Valuable 500, check out how they're moving the global needle on disability inclusion and their global partnership with the International Paralympic Committee.

Also, don't miss this month's Industry RoundUP with a collection of the latest news and highlights from around the adapted sports community. Enjoy!

The Comeback of Competition

We know how important it is for your athletes to get back to competition after the unprecedented challenges we've all faced this past year with COVID. Event after event was cancelled last year and even some in early 2021. Event organizers are beginning to make their way back to providing opportunities for competition. Your endless perseverance and creativity this past year is paying off as athletes are anxious to get back to competition.

This month we spoke with Wendy Gumbert, co-director of the Texas Regional Games and asked her to share some tips and lessons learned for
planning a competition during COVID. Check out these valuable best practices and insight. We also provided a few examples of COVID protocols for sport events.

Congratulations to the Texas Regional team for hosting an incredibly successful event on the heels of a pandemic as so many athletes and program leaders are chomping at the bit to compete and get back into the swing of things!
