Social Distance: Relational Intimacy

Hello, subscribers!

This week, we are looking at social distance and how it influences communication across languages and language varieties!

When thinking about social distance, we suggest to think about relational intimacy. How close you are with someone can really inform expectations of how you communicate and what you communicate about.

Like with all other pragmatic concepts, how social distance operationalizes is dynamic across individuals and people groups. These resources were designed to help educators and learners alike explore this reality.

Oh! And check out the CASLS Spotlight at the end of this issue. It will take you to some free resources that we have for educators!

We hope you enjoy these resources.
