President’s Message

It’s great to see our Chapter participating in LPGA Amateurs competitive events.  Congratulations to the GTA Border Cup team who brought the cup back home to Canada, our GTA/Durham team who placed first in Great Lakes Qualifier, and “Team Birdie Hunters” (comprising GTA/Hamilton-Burlington members) for their first-place finish at the LPGA Amateurs All-Ontario Team Match Play Tournament on August 24-26.  Read on below for the highlights – well done ladies!

Our GTA Chapter team is busy reaching out to sponsors for the Golf Ontario 1000 Ball Challenge – many thanks to those members who have already made a pledge.  For those members who would like to donate to this worthy cause, please use this link.  All donations of $20 or more will be eligible for a charitable Canadian tax receipt to be issued after Oct 31, 2024. Also, for every $20 donation made, you will be entered into a raffle to win 1,000 TaylorMade TP5/X golf balls.  Please help our Chapter hit that $5000 goal – the event closes end of October!

As we have communicated, we will be holding an on-line Special Meeting of our GTA membership on Monday October 7th, 2024, at 7:30 pm to review proposed changes to our by-laws and governance structure.  Your input and vote are important, so please try to attend – if you are unavailable, please consider submitting your proxy vote as noted in our recent message to members.  We will be sending the proposed changes to the by-laws to you in advance of the meeting.

Paula Manuel
President

The Border Cup

Shes back home! The mighty Red and White” GTA team was victorious!  On Saturday September 7thand Sunday September 8th, we welcomed our LPGA Amateurs sisters from the Detroit Chapter to Tarandowah Golfers Club located just east of London, Ontario.  This Scottish Links style course lived up to its reputation as ScoreGolfs #32 ranked in Canada.  Players experienced its full offering, described as having all the elements of a great Links – “firm fairways, wrinkled greens, hidden bunkers, and devilish winds”.  Boy, WAS THERE WIND!...along with a good bit of typical Scottish cloud, rain, low temps and eventual sunshine.  After two days of well-faught best Net ball, the GTA team won the competition by a margin of 16 points... a squeaker, that the U.S. team will no doubt try to reverse in 2025.

  Day 1 Day 2
Best Foursome Alison M., Shirley McF.
Abigail H., Lauren G.
Astrid B., Carmen K.
Sue G., Cindy P.
Closest to the Line Sue G. Janie T.

Huge thanks go to the GTA volunteer organizing committee – Bev H., who led the event planning, and Lise C., Jae R., Alison M. for all of their hard work and creativity to ensure our teams were welcomed.  It was a special treat for the entire group to gather together for post-round dinner on Saturday night.

Great Lakes Cup Qualifier - Results

A big “high five” to the team of Mary C., Mary P., Christina C. from the GTA Chapter and their fourth, Rebecca H. from Durham, who finished first at the Great Lakes Qualifier played at the Gull Lake golf club in Michigan. We also give a shout out to Yang Hai W. who, as a member of the Durham team, finished 5th.
