Join us for the 2024 TMN Heartwood Chapter Volunteer Appreciation Banquet!

Date:  Wednesday, November 13, 2024
Time:  6-8pm
Location:  Sam Houston State University, The Woodlands Center, 3380 College Park Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77384.

We will share a meal, celebrate our accomplishments, conduct the 2025 elections, and play a fun nature-based trivia game. If you cannot join in person, there will be a virtual option to join when the program begins.

Heartwood leadership will provide the main dishes (including a vegetarian option) and beverages for the event. If you would like, you can bring a side dish (veggie, salad, dessert, appetizer). To be sustainable, we are asking that attendees bring their own beverage holders and utensils. If you plan to attend in person or virtually, please register here so we can get a head count for on-site and email addresses for those attending virtually so we can send the Zoom link before the event. Hope to see you there!

Member Spotlight!

As the Heartwood chapter's 20th anniversary approaches, we spotlight the stories of our members who have contributed to our amazing chapter!

Diana Philpot

What year did you become a certified Texas Master Naturalist? 2022. I wanted to join the program in 2013, but it wasn't right for my schedule at the time. Better late than never!
  • Why did you become a Texas Master Naturalist? I was volunteering with many TMNs, and I saw that they  were able to contribute more due to their deeper knowledge of the natural world
  • What was your favorite project? This is a tough question, because I've enjoyed almost every one! I guess it would be the project I've spearheaded with my husband Tom: removing invasive flora from a preserve on Spring Creek, owned by Bayou Land Conservancy.
  • What is one or two things you have learned being a Texas Master Naturalist? The importance of wetlands in preventing flooding, and the dangers of invasive species to our ecosystems
  • What is your favorite park/volunteer site? The Spring Creek Nature Trail

We want to hear from YOU!

As the Heartwood chapter 20th anniversary approaches, we want to hear about your experience as a Heartwood member and Texas Master Naturalist.

Please send us your story incorporating your experience with the following questions:
  • What year did you become a certified Texas Master Naturalist?
  • Why did you become a Texas Master Naturalist?
