The proliferation of misinformation and disinformation has emerged as a significant threat to informed decision-making by voters. It ultimately undermines trust in legitimate information sources, increases polarization in our society, and erodes our democratic processes. Foreign adversaries are increasingly sowing disinformation on American social media to benefit their countries and weaken the US or its allies.
Come and learn about the types of misinformation and disinformation, including manipulated AI-generated content, and the algorithms that selectively present content to individuals based on their past behavior and preferences. These algorithms create a kind of information cocoon that reinforces existing beliefs and perspectives while filtering out opposing viewpoints. This can lead to individuals being exposed to limited perspectives and reinforcing beliefs based on false information.

Campaign Finance Info Now Available on Vote411
LWVUS announced the launch of a new campaign finance feature on VOTE411,our one-stop-shop for nonpartisan election-related information. This innovative feature will provide voters with insights into the financial backers of federal candidates ahead of the 2024 elections.
Campaign finance information enhances voter access and education by offering transparency on who or what organizations are funding candidate campaigns. This additional resource on VOTE411 provides insights and information for voters to evaluate candidates based on their financial. This VOTE411 expansion reflects the League’s long-standing commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the political process. Voters will be able to explore campaign contributions and the sources of those funds, helping them gain a fuller understanding of a candidate’s potential priorities once in office. The League of Women Voters has been a strong advocate for campaign finance reform and transparency, notably supporting efforts like the DISCLOSE Act, which aims to shine a light on the influence of money in politics.
The campaign finance data, provided by OpenSecrets, will be regularly updated on VOTE411, motivating voters to stay informed throughout the election cycle. As part of the League’s ongoing mission to empower voters, VOTE411 ensures that voters are equipped with the information they need to cast their ballots with confidence.
