Uses of a Linkage of Processes

There are several uses for a Linkage of Processes, key ones include:

• Visualize interdependence of the organization’s processes

• Improve communication, coordination and handoffs

• Identify processes that are key to achieving strategic goals

• Integrate organizational improvement initiatives at the process level

Eight steps

• Obtain the aim, or mission, statement for your organization

• List the primary products and services that your organization provides

• Brainstorm a list of 10 to 30 key processes that form the Mainstay(s) of your organization

• Brainstorm a list of 10 to 30 key guiding processes

• Brainstorm a list of 10 to 30 processes that are necessary to support the business of your organization

• Using Deming's "Production Viewed as a System" as a model, layout the Mainstay, Guiding & Support processes

• Sequence and arrange process to match the flow of inputs, work and outputs from one process to another

• Identify logical groupings of processes by drawing boxes around them.. Connect groups and process with arrows that represent the primary interactions
