The weather is starting to cool off, and we are now getting days where snow is in our forecast. We want to encourage families to ensure students have coats, mitts, hats, and warm shoes so they can enjoy their recess and stay warm.
We are thrilled to announce our first PBIS Husky Huddle assembly happened on October 10th! We are working on, “Asking for Help.” Students in grades three and five did a great job of role-playing and modelling what asking for help looks like. This event is designed to celebrate positive behaviour and reinforce our school values. Students were also introduced to the beads they would be earning by asking for help when they need it. Our goal is to fill the PBIS jar to the first line to earn an extra recess. We look forward to seeing all our students modelling and asking for help.
We hope everyone enjoyed your Thanksgiving weekend! Our teachers took advantage of the time to engage in professional learning on the Friday. They focused on enhancing literacy skills and were guided by our EAL Specialist in teaching Tier 1, 2, and 3 vocabulary.
Last week, we enjoyed our second Parent Council Meeting and our grade 5 team presented on the field trips they are planning for their students this year. If you have been thinking about parent council, this is an excellent opportunity to get involved in some of the things that happen at R.J. Hawkey.
Our recent Parent-Teacher conferences were a great success. We appreciate all the families who attended and participated. Your involvement is crucial to your child’s educational journey, and we are grateful for your support. We were also fortunate enough to have received a donation of pumpkins that we gave out during conferences to those who said they were interested in receiving one.
Halloween is right around the corner. We are excited to see what students will be dressed up as. Please remember that costumes must be school-appropriate, meaning no blood, gore or weapons. If a costume has a mask, we ask that your child only wear it during the Halloween parade. During class time and recess, masks must be put away. Many classrooms are planning afternoon celebrations on Thursday, so be sure to read any information coming home from your child's teacher, as they may have some fun activities planned. We know that we have families that may not want their children to participate in Halloween activities, and we want to honour that. Please let your child's teacher know if you do not wish them to participate in these activities, and an alternate activity will be arranged.
Some upcoming important dates to note are November 1st, which is a PL day, and November 11th, there is no school to observe Remembrance Day.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Warmly,
Mrs. Jackie Root - Principal
Mrs. Anne-Marie Czember - Assistant Principal
