Wereley, Choi Honored with Outstanding Technical Paper Award at CAMX 2024

Out of the more than 140 papers presented at the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (CAMX), Assistant Research Scientist Young Choi and Professor Norman Wereley were recognized with a CAMX Outstanding Technical Paper Award for “Quasi-static Crush of Additively Manufactured Honeycomb Structures with Buckling Initiators.”

Three Aerospace Engineering Faculty Among UMD Affiliates With MATRIX Lab


Otte, Paley, and Yu are among eleven University of Maryland faculty now affiliated with the MATRIX Lab, UMD's hub for autonomous technologies and uncrewed systems research in Southern Maryland.

Senior Jeremy Kuznetsov was recognized with a $3,000 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) scholarship that supports outstanding students pursuing digital avionics.

Driven by Purpose: DeLaHunt Honored for Leadership in Diversity and STEM Advocacy


Alumna Sylvie DeLaHunt ’14, M.S. ’16 honored with three awards—from UMD, Women in Aerospace and the Society for Women Engineers—recognizing her work empowering women in STEM and championing DEIB efforts, while also building a successful career at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Alumna Back on Earth


NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission team, which included alumna Jeanette Epps M.S. '94, Ph.D. '00, successfully splashed down Friday, October 25 off Florida, concluding a nearly eight-month science mission aboard the International Space Station.

It provides an opportunity for current WIAA and UMD students to network with professors and professionals from a variety of backgrounds in the industry.
