School Parties and Food Allergies

As the first half of the school year comes to a close, parties and celebrations involving food may be more common at your child’s school.

Our blog post offers tips for navigating school events for children with food allergies.

To prepare for these events, we suggest 5 steps:

  1. Partner with your child’s teacher before the event

  1. Ensure there are safe foods for your child

  1. Encourage non-food treats

  1. Recommend non-food activities

  1. Remind your child of age-appropriate food allergy management skills

Following these steps provides a way for your child to enjoy classroom and school-based celebrations while managing their food allergies.

Read our blog post for more suggestions!

Take Action to Support the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act

About 1 out of 5 school-aged children with food allergies has an allergic reaction while at school. The Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act (S.121/H.R.9550) creates standards designed to ensure the safety of children with food allergies while they are at school.

Take action today and ask your members of Congress to support this important legislation.
