Torry Heat Network Learning Journey

The event in Aberdeen will be followed by a Torry Heat Network Learning Journey the following day. Aberdeen City Council’s Torry Heat Network is one of the 1st heat networks in Scotland to use waste heat from a combined heat and power Energy-from-Waste plant.

Aberdeen City Council, Vital Energi and Aberdeen Heat and Power in partnership with Heatsource invite you to join us for a guided bus tour following the route of the network through varying types of housing stock. The tour will conclude at the Torry heat take off energy centre, where you will get the opportunity to hear from those that have driven the vision and turned it into reality.

HeatSource: popular events at BE-ST Fest

On 6th November, HeatSource hosted a sold-out session with an engaging panel on Breaking the Barriers to Heat Pumps at Scale, featuring insights from Scottish Power, Nesta, and the Energy Training Academy. This session provided a platform to explore solutions for accelerating heat pump adoption. Attendees then had the chance to meet Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and South of Scotland Enterprise for further support.

On 7th November, the Demystifying Electric Heating session at the International Retrofit Conference brought together experts from Connected Response, Flexel, Sunamp, and Electric Heating Company, focusing on practical electric heating solutions for retrofits.

Heat networks regulation: implementing consumer protections
 

This joint DESNZ / Ofgem consultation seeks views and provides updates on consumer protection requirements around:

  • the scope of regulation
  • how protections will work for non-domestic and small-medium size enterprise consumers
  • overarching standards of conduct
  • obligations for fair pricing
  • protecting vulnerable consumers
  • step-in proposals
  • approaches to segmentation
HIE Grants to help businesses and social enterprises cut carbon.

Businesses and social enterprises in the Highlands and Islands looking to reduce the environmental impacts of their operations can now apply to a new Green Grant Fund launched Thursday 26 September.

The three-year £2.7m fund was developed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). It provides grants of between £20,000 and £250,000 towards projects that reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the region’s net zero ambitions.

The Green Grant Fund is aimed at small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and social enterprises that have been trading for at least a year and are eligible to pay non-domestic rates. Those in receipt of non-domestic rates relief are also eligible.

Plans to establish the UK's largest heat network in London have been unveiled.

The £1bn low carbon heating infrastructure project in Westminster, will be one of the UK’s first advanced heat network zones, providing heat to iconic London buildings right in the heart of the capital.

Swedish heat pump specialist Aira has officially opened its first hub in Scotland in a bid to drive UK heat pump plans.


The hub will initially create 30 skilled jobs in the clean energy sector and is set to grow significantly. The company said it plans to employ up to 8,000 people across the UK over the next decade.

Kevin McCloud revisits Vaillant heat pump installs one year on

Vaillant has joined forces with architecture expert and TV presenter Kevin McCloud once again. A year ago, it launched its Heat Pump Possible, calling on homeowners and installers to share their heat pump installs to help showcase their potential . Now Kevin has caught up with two installers involved in the original challenge to explore their views on how the heat pump market has changed.
