SUMMERDYNE NURSING HOME
Our Christmas News 2024
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Preparations are well underway here (we like to start early!) so diaries at the ready for all our festive events. But first, an Autumn update...

Our Pumpkin Carving Competition for Halloween was a great success. Well done to Alex who was the chosen winner. So much fun for residents to get stuck in with their entries and judging the competition. Other Halloween crafting too, baking and dressing up. A spook-tacular day!
We celebrated National Art in Care Homes Day. It was lovely to have a visit from Mike from the National Activity Providers Association. We spent the morning on a trip down memory lane, looking back at all of the art we had created throughout the year. In the afternoon, we unleashed our inner artists and get stuck into new projects.
For something new, we welcomed an interactive storyteller to our home. The residents thoroughly enjoyed bringing stories to life and were truly captivated.

We have also enjoyed lots of different music. Corinne and Stephen from the English Symphony Orchestra visited to play for our residents. We had a fantastic morning dancing with JDR and the wonderful Glam Sparrow also visited. Plus, an absolutely brilliant evening when The Kidderminster Male Choir visited.
We started our ‘Summerdyne Travels the World’ adventure with our first stop being Italy.

We made residents their own passports that we can stamp to show each destination. We enjoyed delicious Italian food and drinks & trivia and ended our travels by sending postcards to our loved ones telling them all about it.

Next stop Canada and then Finland for Christmas!
Many of you may remember Winnie’s 101st birthday last year…. We’re trying to make her 102nd just as memorable but we need your help!  We want to give Winnie 102 birthday cards for her 102nd so we are asking friends, family & members of our community to send her some cards ready for 20th November.

Heritage Manor is ending the year on a high, receiving 10 awards at The Great British Care Awards 2024. For a second year, we have been highly commended in the Care Employer Category and other individual members of staff were also regional finalists or winners in their categories. Wonderful recognition of our hard work and dedication to providing excellent care.

“Firstly, a huge congratulations to our many winners at The Great British Care Awards 2024, from Best Chef to Best Care Newcomer, along with all of our Finalists. Very pleasing to see a lot of hard work being rewarded.

The recent Government budget was a huge blow to the care sector. Once again there was no planned support for the sector in the Chancellors speech and no recognition of the need to invest in social care. The National Care Association have said: “The promise of £600 million via the Local Authority route will make little impact to the current £8.4 billion black hole in the social care budgets. The reality is that when this is divided into the children, younger adults and older people parts of the sector, it will make a very small ripple….. It is really important to note that for each staff member employed earning more than £416 per week, the cost of employing them will now increase by £615 per annum.”

I am afraid that we will be seeing another significant increase to our costs in April, and I fear that some care operators will now struggle to continue."

Simon Patient, Managing Director of Heritage Manor
In response to the budget, Nadra Ahmed CBE and Ian Turner OBE, Executive Co-Chairs of National Care Association said:
We are open for admissions of new residents. This can be long stay or respite care to recuperate after time in hospital or a fall, to regain confidence and that zest for life.
