THE LAWNS NURSING AND RESIDENTIAL HOME
Our Christmas Newsletter 2024
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Preparations are well underway here (we like to start early!) so diaries at the ready for all our festive events. But first, an Autumn update...
What a fun Halloween afternoon...group mummy making, What's In The Box, monster bingo, and one or two sweets. Oh and let's not forget a few trick or treat visitors and brilliant costumes! The peels of laughter from our team being mummified and residents wrapping them up in loo roll. A spook-tacular time!
We have had visits from the students of Kempsey Primary School and The Kings School, Worcester. It’s so lovely for the different generations to share stories, listen to music and play games together.
And when a member of our team brought her gorgeous baby boy in for a visit, we couldn't resist some cuddles!

This photo shows just what this meant for one of our residents .....
We have also had visits from new four-legged friends, Ragnar the cockerpoo and some newborn kittens. Plus, we celebrated World Animal Day and hosted a horse racing event for Gents Club.
What with all the rain we have enjoyed lots of indoor pursuits; from flower arranging to bulb planting, fun keep fit sessions, crafting (we have a lot to be making for our upcoming Christmas Fayre) and baking. One of our residents Audrey is a fabulous baker.

We have also been running an Autumn Colouring Competition for residents, their families and friends and across our Heritage Manor Group. We have been overwhelmed by the number of entries -all so brilliant - our resident judges are still mulling over who should be the winners.
November and December events and activities

We have a weekly diary which includes regular activities such as music appreciation, film club, gardening club, baking, salon and pampering time, Church services, knitting group, art and crafts, sensory therapy, history group, keep fit, yoga and one to one time.

Mondays: Singing for the heart in the morning and crafternoons from 3pm.
Dance to Health regular fitness session on a Thursday morning.
Regular gardening group, debating club, interactive games, poetry and prose, quizzes, news coffee and catch ups.

Activities focus around our Heritage Manor ethos:

"You don’t stop having fun when you get old…..
You get old when you stop having fun"

Below is a snapshot of some of our festive events.

Our Christmas Fayre Fundraiser will be on Sunday 1st December. Residents are sewing, knitting, planting, making jams and chutneys, all in readiness for the day.

Our Christmas trees go up on 3rd December and residents will be unboxing the baubles and decking the halls in the afternoon, getting into the festive spirit!

We will be singing along to the Christmas classics with our entertainer at our Christmas Party for residents, family and friends from 2.30pm on Tuesday 17th December.

Plus another opportunity to get together on Thursday 19th December from 2.30pm for carolling at our candle lit memorial service with our local church.

There will be all the traditions for Christmas week, including a Christmas Eve Quiz and the biggest turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas Day lunch, after everyone has opened their stockings.  There will be traditional Christmas games in the afternoon on Boxing Day.

We are having a New Year’s Eve celebration on Tuesday 31st December for residents and teams, families and friends. We have a piper coming to pipe in the haggis for a Hogmanay dinner with neaps and tatties and a tot or two of whisky!

Heritage Manor is ending the year on a high, receiving 10 awards at The Great British Care Awards 2024. For a second year, we have been highly commended in the Care Employer Category and other individual members of staff were also regional finalists or winners in their categories. Wonderful recognition of our hard work and dedication to providing excellent care.

“Firstly, a huge congratulations to our many winners at The Great British Care Awards 2024, from Best Chef to Best Care Newcomer, along with all of our Finalists. Very pleasing to see a lot of hard work being rewarded.

The recent Government budget was a huge blow to the care sector. Once again there was no planned support for the sector in the Chancellors speech and no recognition of the need to invest in social care. The National Care Association have said: “The promise of £600 million via the Local Authority route will make little impact to the current £8.4 billion black hole in the social care budgets. The reality is that when this is divided into the children, younger adults and older people parts of the sector, it will make a very small ripple….. It is really important to note that for each staff member employed earning more than £416 per week, the cost of employing them will now increase by £615 per annum.”

I am afraid that we will be seeing another significant increase to our costs in April, and I fear that some care operators will now struggle to continue."

Simon Patient, Managing Director of Heritage Manor

In response to the budget, Nadra Ahmed CBE and Ian Turner OBE, Executive Co-Chairs of National Care Association said:
We are open for admissions of new residents. This can be long stay or respite care to recuperate after time in hospital or a fall, to regain confidence and that zest for life.
