C.A.R.L. Donors

Dear Appreciated CARL Donor,

As you may know, CARL has had a glitch in our donation system in processing donations for the past 4-5 months, and CARL has been unable to receive most donations. CARL operations are donation-based (besides the small boarding business and thrift store) so regular donations and special donations have been sorely missed!

Now more than ever, our dogs depend on your donations. Our system is back up and running. Please consider a special donation to help us catch up or an extra-generous end-of-year donation. All donations are tax-deductible.

Thank you so much for the dogs.
CARL

Adopt a Senior Pet Month 2024: When & How to Celebrate

November every year is Adopt a Senior Pet Month. As you might expect, this month is observed to encourage people to adopt older pets, which are typically overlooked. Most people adopting are looking for younger pets, leaving older pets in shelters and rescues for longer.

This month’s primary purpose is to raise awareness about the plight of senior pets with the hope that more potential adopters will choose older cats and dogs. Some rescue organizations may use this month to promote their older pets, offering discounts on senior animals and advertising them on social media.

Why Senior Pets?

There are loads of pets that need to be adopted. Why do senior pets need their own month? Sadly, senior pets are commonly overlooked in adoption agencies and shelters. They can make wonderful and loving companions, though, especially if you’re looking for a calmer pet. Senior pets tend to be less work, as they are commonly already trained and socialized.

Often, senior pets are also past frustrating behaviors that commonly occur during puppy- and kittenhood, like excessive chewing. Therefore, if you want to skip these behaviors, you may want to consider adopting an older pet, especially during this month.

Celebrating this Month

If you want to celebrate Adopt a Senior Pet Month, consider adopting an older pet! Even when adopting a pet that is over the age of 7, you’re still committing to taking care of that pet for several years. While 7+ is often when a pet is considered “old,” some pets can go on to live for about 10+ years. Therefore, don’t assume you’re making much less of a time commitment.

If you can’t adopt a pet, consider volunteering at a shelter or rescue to help senior pets who are trying to get adopted. You can also share information about senior pets in your area on social media, which may help their information reach someone looking to adopt a new pet.

Hi, I'm Bentley, a feisty and opinionated Shih Tzu / Pomeranian X in need of a new home.

While I can be a bit bite-y, territorial and possessive of my resources, I'm also a sweet and affectionate pup who enjoys spending time with my people.

I'm best-suited for an adult-only dog experienced home where I will be the center of attention. I enjoy treats and going for walks. I'm house and crate trained and will go to the door to be let out.

I have a lot of love left to give and will make a great companion to the right person. If you think you can meet my needs, please fill out an online application to meet me.

Stella Luna, Stewart & Jose, Stella Luna & Brenda

Ramen,  Aries, Jasper, Jose & Stewart with Kathy & Jax

Jax & Kathy

It was another beautiful day in Ventura at our monthly dog adoption event at Sailor and
Friends Pet Supply. Our volunteers led by Toni were Christina, Sue, Brenda, Jose and
Kathy. Sheila stopped by with her two fosters which she shares with the woman in
charge of it all, Sharon. Our fur babies were the aforementioned fosters Jax and
Stewart, my 100 pounds of love Aries, Stella Luna, Baby, Mustard, Ramen and my
sweetheart Jasper. It was a slow day…not many visitors. We did see some interest
though. We planted some seeds anyway and enjoyed a day out with our babies. We
received $22 in donations which are always appreciated. We will be back November 2,
2024 from 11:30 to 3:30. We hope to see you there.

Stella Luna, Pippa, Jax, Jax in pen meeting Pippa

Today was a fun day. We had Pippa, Stella Luna, and Jax, who is new to the program.
We also had a new volunteer Amy helping, which was nice. Stella did really well this time. She previously really enjoyed barking. Ha. Pippa hung out with Amy and enjoyed her walks and naps. Jax is a 6-month-old Shepherd/Lab mix who is great with kids. He has had some puppy training. A woman that adopted Storm, one of Kiki's pups stopped
by and showed us pictures of him in his Halloween costume. We will be back on Sunday, November 3rd.

Recycling Fundraiser

Please Remember To Recycle For The CARL Dogs!

We need your help. Please remember to recycle for the CARL dogs. The money we raise helps the dogs in so many ways. Many things have been funded through our recycling program. We have been able to purchase dog house heaters for the winter and misters for the summer months. We have been able to buy food for special needs dogs, provide medical, help sponsor dogs and much needed maintenance to the kennels to keep our dogs safe and happy. But we need your help as we can do so much more if you donate your recyclables.

Please separate your plastic bottles and aluminum cans and bring to the kennel. If you are unable to bring to the kennel, we can make arrangements to pick them up. You can also bring your recyclables to the CARL Boutique Thrift Store. What is good for the environment is also good for the dogs:)
