WEST EATON NURSING HOME
Our Christmas Newsletter 2024
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Preparations are well underway here (we like to start early!) so diaries at the ready for all our festive events. But first, an Autumn update...

We are thrilled to have won at The Great British (West Midlands) Care Awards 2024, with Paige Lewis winning the Care Newcomer Award, Jes Jones receiving Highly Commended for Best Carer and Rachel Eardley a finalist in the Activity Coordinator Category.

In Paige's words: "As a newcome to care, I focus on providing comfort and companionship to residents, learning from their stories and experiences. I take pride in listening carefully, offering support and creating moments of joy. Seeing their smiles motivates me to ensure they live their best lives possible every day."

We had a fabulous night celebrating at the awards ceremony and are so proud of our team.

Our residents have also been winners at the Hereford Growing Point Autumn Show. They have been growing veggies and sunflowers over the summer, and pickling and bottling. They entered a number of categories and were delighted to be awarded two second prizes for their herb planter and homemade elderflower cordial.

Thank you to Herford Growing Point for supporting our residents throughout the year. Most recently, we enjoyed creating autumnal dream catchers with them to hang in our window.

We had a brilliant dance themed day, with Matt and Sarah from Coolmoves Dance and Fitness showing us how it’s done. It took the residents back to their dance hall days, watching them dance the Charleston. They even tried to teach the staff some moves!

We have also enjoyed a huge range of musical entertainment. Huw Knight bought in his accordions as he knew our resident Carmel would like to play them and they performed a duet. Eddie Graham brought such fun and entertainment with everyone singing along. And we enjoyed a beautiful recital by accomplished harpist Rita Daniela Schindler.

And residents loved a visit from the Luston C of E Primary School children who bought their autumn songs, poems and activities. Plus a hamper of goodies which residents enjoyed, including homemade jam and apple crumble!

Our Halloween Competition

Thank you for all the Halloween mask entries (so spooktacular!) and congratulations to the winners ranging from 3 to 88 years old!

Also thank you Morrisons Leominster for donating prizes.

We did some pumpkin carving and made themed biscuits for a monster Halloween tea which included a visit from some gorgeous Guinea pigs and some young children joined in the fun, with trick or treating, games and fancy dress.

They say never work with children or animals, but here both are such a bit hit!

Heritage Manor is ending the year on a high, receiving 10 awards at The Great British Care Awards 2024. For a second year, we have been highly commended in the Care Employer Category and other individual members of staff were also regional finalists or winners in their categories. Wonderful recognition of our hard work and dedication to providing excellent care.

“Firstly, a huge congratulations to our many winners at The Great British Care Awards 2024, from Best Chef to Best Care Newcomer, along with all of our Finalists. Very pleasing to see a lot of hard work being rewarded.

The recent Government budget was a huge blow to the care sector. Once again there was no planned support for the sector in the Chancellors speech and no recognition of the need to invest in social care. The National Care Association have said: “The promise of £600 million via the Local Authority route will make little impact to the current £8.4 billion black hole in the social care budgets. The reality is that when this is divided into the children, younger adults and older people parts of the sector, it will make a very small ripple….. It is really important to note that for each staff member employed earning more than £416 per week, the cost of employing them will now increase by £615 per annum.”

I am afraid that we will be seeing another significant increase to our costs in April, and I fear that some care operators will now struggle to continue."

Simon Patient, Managing Director of Heritage Manor
In response to the budget, Nadra Ahmed CBE and Ian Turner OBE, Executive Co-Chairs of National Care Association said:
We feel incredibly proud to have been awarded a Top 20 Care Home in the West Midlands award for 2024 from http://www.carehome.co.uk Our home consistently scores 10 out of 10 in their online reviews, which praise our warmth and friendliness, outstanding person-centred care, dedication and professionalism.

We are open for admissions of new residents. This can be long stay or respite care to recuperate after time in hospital or a fall, to regain confidence and that zest for life. Check out our virtual tour.
