Ocean Discovery League Newsletter | November 2024

Ahoy!

This month, we're looking for some Bluesky and have really enjoyed watching this emerging social media platform take off. If you're new to it, there are several great ocean-related "Starter Packs" (an easy way to follow new accounts), including ones for Deep-Sea Science and Ocean Women. Follow us on the platform at oceandiscleague.bsky.social.

Some amazing ocean conversations have been happening there, including celebrating the recent discovery of the largest coral ever found in the Solomon Islands by our colleagues at National Geographic Pristine Seas. The coral measures 34 meters wide, 32 meters long, and 5.5 meters high and is estimated to be over 300 years old.

Discoveries like this only reinforce how little we've seen of the ocean and how critical it is to continue to champion ocean exploration and marine protected areas. We will need everyone's voices now and in the future.
