A new $1.76 million federal grant will support a pilot program for drone use in conducting medical deliveries to Eastern Shore communities hindered by transportation barriers. The University of Maryland's (UMD) UAS Research and Operations Center (UROC) will manage the project and lead the technical effort under the guidance of Maryland’s Department of Planning, the grant recipient.
Assistant Professor Tam Nguyen joins the department from MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory where she led multiple programs in advanced sensing capabilities, space-based instrumentation, and space mission architectures.
Associate Professor Christine Hartzell was named an AIAA Associate Fellow for her contributions to the understanding of dust-plasma interactions on the moon and asteroids, and foundational work demonstrating the significance of plasma solitons for detecting small orbital debris.
The department is looking for new faculty with expertise in space-related research, particularly in the field of space robotics and/or human factors as it relates to spaceflight. LEARN MORE & APPLY.
