Message from The Tishman Center Director
|
|
This important moment following the elections calls for our steadfast commitment and solidarity with our communities of practice and partners.
In September, the Tishman Environment and Design Center prepared an Interim Strategic Plan to help guide our work. The plan considers the emerging needs and changing conditions that could arise in the months ahead. It includes short—and mid-term strategies to ensure the Center is well-positioned to support those on the frontlines and our EJ movement partners.
Read the Intermin Strategic Plan, Safeguarding Environmental Justice through a Shifting Political Landscape.
- Strengthening regional EJ movement capacity.
- Mobilizing resources for urgent movement needs.
- Amplifying messaging to drive equitable climate policies.
- Bridging academia and community efforts to foster just community partnerships.
As we look ahead to the next several months and four years, the Tishman Center remains steadfast in its mission to help realize healthy, generative, and thriving EJ communities.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ana Isabel Baptista

EJ Disrupt Design Fellowship:
Community Updates
|
|
As threats to democracy intensify and federal roadblocks hinder progress, Environmental Justice (EJ) movement leaders continue to lead with courage, accountability, and rigor. EJ leaders play a vital role in tackling the intersectional crises impacting their communities. Transformative change begins at the trans-local, statewide, and regional levels, with ripples felt nationally and globally. Environmental Justice leaders must be centered and lead climate policies and Just investments.
Watch this video to learn about EJ leaders’ bold solutions and how, collectively, we are reshaping what’s possible for Environmental Justice.

Gratitude Report
From October 22-26, 2024, the second cohort of the EJ Disrupt Design Fellowship gathered on unceded Ohlone lands in the Bay Area for their first in-person retreat, hosted in partnership with Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN), and Just Homes. Through collective discussions on power, risk, and movement dynamics, paired with cultural celebrations uplifting Indigenous-led solutions, EJ Fellows and local leaders deepened their political grounding and explored new perspectives on community engagement. The cohort worked together to build strategies and frameworks for future conversations, fostering a more profound commitment to strengthening Environmental Justice.
