ATLANTIC ROUTE (Reuters) Number of migrants reaching Spain’s Canary Islands breaks all-time record – The number of people reaching Spain’s Canary Islands on precarious vessels from West Africa has hit an all-time annual record with 41,425 arrivals between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30 of this year, Interior Ministry data showed on Monday [2 December].

EU COMMISSION (POLITICOVDL’s outgoing migration czar casts doubt on president’s migrant returns plan – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in October said that EU capitals should consider creating “return hubs” in third countries to speed up ejections of undocumented people. Her own migration chief isn’t so sure that will work.

EU EXTERNAL PARTNERS (EUobserver) EU Commission maintains innocence despite losing Tunisia transparency case – The European Commission maintains it has been transparent and did nothing wrong after being faulted by the EU Ombudsman for its obfuscation in its controversial deal with Tunisia.

EU EXTERNAL PARTNERS (AP) Armed men in speedboats make off with women and children when a migrants’ dinghy deflates off Libya – Armed men in two speedboats took off with women and children after a rubber dinghy carrying some 112 people seeking to cross the Mediterranean Sea started deflating off Libya’s coast, a humanitarian aid group said Friday [29 November].

GERMANY (DW) Germany: Irregular migration drops due to new border checks – Police have registered a 40% fall in unauthorised entries at Germany’s borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland since new controls were introduced last month [October], according to a newspaper report.

GREECE (To Vima) Report Alleges Greece Systemically Employs Pushbacks, Citing “Regime of Impunity” – A new report accuses Greece of violating international and EU laws through deliberate and systematic pushbacks of people seeking asylum, involving detention, abuse, and denial of protection.

IRELAND (Irish IndependentFire breaks out at asylum seeker accommodation centre in Co Wicklow – A fire broke out [on 25 November] at an accommodation centre for international protection applicants in Co Wicklow.

IRELAND (Irish Times) Asylum seekers who were moved from tents told they may remain indoors ‘until further notice’ – Dozens of people who were temporarily moved out of tents to Dublin’s Citywest accommodation when temperatures turned icy last week have been told they may remain at the centre “until further notice” following an earlier request that they vacate the premises.

ITALY (ANSA) Over 20 rights groups urge transparency in Italy’s implementation of EU asylum pact  Over 20 associations involved in defending human rights and those of people on the move have sent a letter to the Italian government calling for “transparency” on the implementation of the European Pact for Migration and Asylum.

ITALY (Unione SardaSmall boat sank in the waters of Teulada, the search for the missing continues – The search continues in the waters of southern Sardinia, after a small boat sank off the coast of the island, in the Cala Zafferano area, in the Teulada area.

LITHUANIA (DevdiscourseUN Working Group Urges Lithuania to Strengthen Measures Against Enforced Disappearances – The United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances has called on Lithuania to continue building on its legislative and institutional measures to better prevent and address enforced disappearances.

NETHERLANDS (Netherlands Times) Dutch border controls to resume with limited resources – Starting December 9, the Netherlands will temporarily reinstate border controls for six months at its internal Schengen borders with Belgium and Germany.
