In order to support herself as a young artist living in New York, Sophia Giovannitti began to provide sexual services. She soon began to see sex work not only as a subject for artistic creation, but above all as a way to make as much money as possible in the shortest possible time. Living on the border between the art world and the sex industry showed her how much the two markets have in common: both are built on buying and selling creativity and desire, authenticity and intimacy.
She captured her experiences in her book Working Girl: On Selling Art and Selling Sex. The Czech translation by Ondřej Trhoň and Toby Wehle is published now by tranzit.cz as the 26th volume of the navigation edition. The afterword was written by MA Markéta Garai. The book is available at the online bookstore Matter of Art with a 20% discount until the end of the year and will be distributed from 5 December. Working Girl is also part of the bargain Unhinged book set along with the books Raving by McKenzie Wark and Airless Spaces by Shulamith Firestone.
