"And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake,
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us -- listen!"

- From the poem The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper
Winter solstice sunrise, Plum Island
Hi all!

The winter solstice is behind us, and already there are more minutes of sunlight than there were a week ago. We are turning back toward the light, and we will build back our strength and community together.

As we close the door on 2024, we want to thank you all for joining us on this path and urge you all to stay in the fight. Our efforts will start soon, when we kick off a collection drive to support Our Neighbors' Table for several weeks starting MLK Weekend. This is just the first volley in our goal of drowning out the miserable MAGAs (and DOGEs, MAHAs and whatever new acronyms arise to apply to the inreasingly contentious incoming admininstration) with positive actions to support the most vulnerable among us. As Indivisible National explained when promoting "Help Over Hate" local actions, "This isn’t just about service—it’s about defiance. It’s about helping those most targeted by Trump’s policies. It’s about showing that we will not back down."

Stay tuned for more details about our upcoming collection drive and other initial efforts.

If you might be interested in taking on an organizational role in the work of I-RISE going forward, please email us at indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com. There is much to be done, and we will do it together.

Until then, we hope you are enjoying good books, good times with family and friends, and good rest for the work ahead. We wish you all a Happy New Year!

Onward to 2025.
