What are we thankful for this year?

Well, for one thing, our AMAZING volunteers! When our kennel staff checked the dog house heaters in the night kennels and found 26 were either not working or were heating up but not dispursing heat due to the fan not working...the volunteers went into panic mode! It gets cold at night at the kennel.🥶 So one of our long time volunteers, Sue, bought enough to replace all the non-functioning ones. Then volunteers Ken Irwin and Ken Ross went to work by installing all 26 of them over a two day period. It was an amazing effort and we thank Sue, Ken and Ken for their generosity, support and their time/labor. The dogs will now be warm at night. 🐾

Kade is a great walking companion. He'll walk at whatever my pace is, but he also enjoys running. He likes to run on the beach, near the water, but not in it. He has also enjoyed hiking the upper trails at the Ventura Botanical Gardens. He travels very well in the car, laying on the backseat for the entire ride! He can be very shy meeting new people but is learning to trust more people and gently take treats.

Hi, I'm Kade, a handsome American Bulldog, German Shepherd, Chow X with some Supermutt (DNA test) who was rescued from a LA Shelter where I was on borrowed time. I get overlooked probably because of my breed, possibly because of my color or maybe it's my shyness when meeting new people. I need time to get to know you before I warm up to you. I'll need a patient person who will take the time to get to know me and allow me to get to know them.

Volunteers say I'm the easiest dog to walk. I've been in playgroups and although I don't try to initiate play very often, I'm fine hanging around other calm dogs. I'm a loving boy, but I'm still timid with my surroundings. I've been fortunate to have gone on offsite outings with some of my favorite volunteers and I'm learning to be more confident.

I know my special someone is out there. I hope it's not long before they find me.

Sailor & Friends, Ventura, Saturday, December 7th, 11:30am - 3:30pm!



Santa made a stop at Sailor & Friends to ask the CARL dogs what they wanted for Christmas! I'm sure they each asked for a forever home and some treats.

It was a short but sweet Christmas dog adoption event in beautiful Ventura at Sailor &
Friends Pet Supply. Joined by a band called Old Bones and Santa Claus were a few
other vendors along with CARL’s fur babies Stella Luna, Clyde, Corkie, Selene, Willow,
Nellie and Bentley. Toni, our fearless leader was joined by volunteers Brenda, Sue,
Christina, Jose and Kathy. It is always nice for our fur babies to get a vacation from their
stay at the kennel and to rock out and wish for a forever home from Santa. I believe
Stella Luna got her wish as she has been adopted! See the great photos of our babies
with Santa and please join us at our next event on Saturday January 4, 2025 from 11:30
am to 3:30 pm. Also thank-you for the $5 we received in donations.

Recycling Fundraiser

Please Remember To Recycle For The CARL Dogs!

We need your help. Please remember to recycle for the CARL dogs. The money we raise helps the dogs in so many ways. Many things have been funded through our recycling program. We have been able to purchase dog house heaters for the winter and misters for the summer months. We have been able to buy food for special needs dogs, provide medical, help sponsor dogs and much needed maintenance to the kennels to keep our dogs safe and happy. But we need your help as we can do so much more if you donate your recyclables.

Please separate your plastic bottles and aluminum cans and bring to the kennel. If you are unable to bring to the kennel, we can make arrangements to pick them up. You can also bring your recyclables to the CARL Boutique Thrift Store. What is good for the environment is also good for the dogs:)
