Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
Find the HPV Vaccine Near You
|
|
|
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on the importance of prevention, early detection, and education about this disease. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, thanks to the availability of routine screenings and the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer, and vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of developing this disease.
By staying up to date with Pap smears, HPV testing, and vaccination, individuals can take proactive steps to protect their health. Let’s spread awareness this month about the critical role of HPV vaccination and encourage our communities to prioritize cervical cancer prevention.
Join us on January 23rd at the Eisenhower Health Department (1395 Eisenhower Drive) for a full day of awareness and prevention from 8 AM to 7 PM. Take advantage of FREE cervical cancer screenings, Pap smears, and HPV vaccines. Everyone is welcome. Together, we can work toward a future free of cervical cancer!

2024 Healthy Savannah Board Retreat
Planning a Healthier Future for Chatham County

|
At our December Board Retreat, we had an incredibly productive and inspiring meeting as we worked together to shape the future of Healthy Savannah. During the retreat, we proudly finalized a revised mission and vision statement, reflecting our commitment to fostering a healthier, more equitable community. Additionally, we identified key priorities that will guide us in developing our very first Five-Year Strategic Plan, setting a strong foundation for impactful growth and meaningful change.
A heartfelt thank you to Southern Palate for providing us with a delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch, keeping us energized throughout the day. Your support helped make this retreat both enjoyable and successful!
We’re excited to take these next steps in advancing health and wellness in Savannah and look forward to sharing our progress with you in the coming months.

Do You Know a Breastfeeding-Friendly
Business or Nonprofit?
We Want to Hear From You!
|
|
|
We’re on a mission to identify breastfeeding-friendly workplaces in Savannah! Whether it’s your employer, your favorite local business, or a nonprofit organization, we want to partner with them to celebrate and recognize their efforts in making Savannah a healthier place to live.
The PUMP Act supports and encourages breastfeeding, which provides essential nutrition for babies and supports the health of families. By promoting breastfeeding-friendly environments, workplaces help normalize this healthier choice and empower parents in their breastfeeding journeys.
To honor these champions of health, we’re awarding breastfeeding-friendly workplaces with displayable decals and certificates, proudly showcasing their commitment to supporting employees and creating inclusive spaces.
Nominate a business or nonprofit today! Email our breastfeeding strategy manager, Dr. Elsie Smalls, at elsie@healthysavannah.org.

Active People, Healthy Savannah
Join the Campaign Today!

Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do for you and your family. One way to do that is to get regular physical activity. Increased physical activity can improve your sleep, reduce stress, and lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, some cancers, and type 2 diabetes.
We are joining other local and national organizations in supporting the Moving Matters campaign, part of the Active People, Healthy Nation℠ initiative, to help promote the benefits of physical activity, encourage people to find small ways to incorporate movement into their day, and remind people that physical activity can be fun.
Visit cdc.gov/MovingMatters to learn more about the campaign and explore ways to get moving!
